A Trip Down Goshen Lane
Issue 26: Feb. 13, 2026
Principal's Message
Everyone had a LOVEly time at classroom Valentine Parties. Our students have the best creativity!
Hello, Families,
πThere is no school for students Monday, February 16th. π
We hope families enjoyed time at the PTA Chuck E. Cheese Event during their Friday off of school!
This February brings countless reasons to celebrate for our Goshen Lane family. The Winter Olympics, Groundhog Day, Black History Month, Lunar New Year, Valentines Day, the Super Bowl, Ramadan, President's Day, and Mardi Gras are just some special events and highlights in and out of school for our students. Not to mention 60 additional minutes of daylight from the start to the end of February. We wish everyone an enriching month full of the special things you love!
This Week's Question Around the Dinner Table:
- What is something you are looking forward to doing outside as the daylight time is getting longer?
Enjoy your family on your 4 day weekend!
Sharon Suriano
Principal
Our Staff Rocks!
Thank you to our amazing staff who have had a big few days of learning and collaboration. Teachers and support staff have been participating in Goshen Lane Data Days to learn more about their students and plan best next steps for all. They have also participated in the GJPS Professional Development Day to dig more deeply into their math curriculum, Bridges, and English Language Arts curriculum, Wit & Wisdom. They left this week full of ideas to use with students.
Parent-Teacher Conferences
We look forward to connecting more with our parents at the upcoming Parent-Teacher Conferences. Conference nights are February 26th and March 5th, and you have received a digital sign up from your teachers. We'd love to have 100% family attendance!
Car Pickup Reminders
Thank you to families for helping keep our walkers safe in the front of the building. Car pickups should be in the back of the building. If you have a situation that requires you to park on the public streets in the front of the school, please be extra careful, obey stop signs, and keep a close eye out for our students crossing the streets. For the safety of our students, this is not the time to hurry or be distracted. I encourage folks to use the back parking lot for pickup.
Fourth Grade History Pass
Spark their awe & wonder about Ohioβs amazing history with the 4th grade history pass program.
Did you know 4th graders can get a 4th grade history pass? The America 250-Ohio Commission and history-related museums and sites recently introduced the new 4th Grade History Pass β a special program that allows Ohio 4th grade students the chance to attend participating history museums and historic sites free of charge, with a paid adult.
Please visit the Fourth Grade History Pass website for more information and FAQs about the program.

Recently in Phys Ed classes third, fourth, and fifth grades kicked off our Team Tressel Fitness Challenge! This is a 30 day challenge ending the first week of March. Students create healthy habit SMART goals and move through bronze, silver, and gold levels tracking their progress. πͺπΌ
All grade levels participated in a Super Bowl lesson practicing football skills such as field goal kicks, quarterback passing, running back touchdowns, strength and cardio exercises. Students also had the chance to vote on who they would think would win the Super Bowl!
This week, students will be learning and practicing a variety of Winter Olympic events like the bobsleigh, skeleton, luge, downhill skiing, and trick jumps. If you have the opportunity to watch the Winter Olympics, it is an amazing event! π₯π₯π₯
Coming up at the end of February and into March, classes we will be participating in our Climbing Wall Unit. Students are always so excited for this unit, especially the zip line! π§π½ββοΈ
I am still accepting photos for the βGoshen On The Moveβ bulletin board to celebrate students being physically active outside of school! If you have pictures of sporting events, family walks and/or activities, please send them so I can add them to our bulletin board.
Questions to ask your student:
How can we create healthy habits as a family?
What was your favorite Olympic event you practiced in PE?
Related Arts Corner with Mr. Downing in the Music Room!
There are so many things to celebrate this February: from Black History Month to the Super Bowl and Winter Olympics, Lunar New Year to Ramadan, many of our Goshen Lane students have something important to celebrate. In our music classes, we touch on each of these with musical examples and activities connected to the concepts we study with rhythm and pitch.
Itβs a true world of music month in the music room during February!
Questions to ask your student:
Who are some of the important Black musicians who shaped American music?
Which country celebrating the Lunar New Year do you know a song from?
Letβs watch some of the Super Bowl performances together!
At the recent Super Bowl, Coco Jones gave a stirring rendition of βLift Evβry Voice and Singβ at the Super Bowl, and Brandi Carlilie offered a patriotic song, βAmerica the Beautiful.β
