BMS Selected for Iowaâs First Middle School Brain Health Retreat Room
Bettendorf Middle School is excited to announce it has been chosen as Iowaâs first middle school to receive a Brain Health Retreat Room, launching in the 2026â27 school year. The project is made possible through a $40,000 grant and the districtâs ongoing partnership with Brain Health Now.
Brain Health Now is a nonprofit organization dedicated to changing the way people think about mental health by promoting the term âbrain healthâ to reduce stigma and encourage supportive environments.
The new Brain Health Retreat Room will provide a calm, welcoming space for both students and staff. Staff will have time set aside for reflection and reset, while students can access guided support to help them reset, recharge, and return to learning.
âWeâre honored to lead the way in Iowa and grateful to Brain Health Now for believing in our students, staff, and district,â said Sarah Harris, MTSS-SEBH Coordinator.
The addition builds on Bettendorf Middle Schoolâs strong foundation of student supports, including counseling services, peer mentorship programs, a school-based therapist, and a therapy dog program.
