Dear Families,

This past Wednesday, the district principals presented the School Improvement Plans to School Committee. Before getting into that, there was a remarkable "Spotlight on Student Learning" that featured a range of students from grades 8-12 who demonstrated the results of their research action plans. Student projects ranged from oceanography to sociology, were unveiled in state-wide competitions, and two students even sat on a panel with MA Secretary of Education Patrick Tutweiler. Their presentation framed our own with models of exactly what we are looking to do for every student -- engender high quality learning that is accessible to all students and through which students are invested and can demonstrate real agency. Kudos to Ms. Cerruti, Ms. Hannon, and Dr. Duncan for giving form to what the three principals were trying to describe on a grander scale: joy in learning.

This year, our schools are embarking on an ambitious journey to reimagine what excellence means for every student. Three transformative goals will guide our work, each designed to ensure your child thrives academically, socially, and personally.

First, we're defining what exceptional teaching and learning looks like in Cohasset. Rather than relying on assumptions, we're bringing together teachers and students across the district to create a shared vision of powerful instruction—one that's culturally responsive, deeply engaging, and tailored to our community's values. There are some wonderful things happening within these walls. Having the ability to share them and build on them collaborative means your child will experience consistent, high-quality learning that honors their identity and ignites their curiosity.

Second, we're redefining success itself. Moving beyond test scores alone, we're listening to what you, our educators, and our students believe truly matters—belonging, mental health, growth, and engagement. By establishing clear indicators and concrete goals, we'll know we're succeeding when every student feels valued, supported, and inspired to reach their potential.

Finally, we're broadening our capacity towards continuing to build an athletics program that develops character, not just champions. With over 300 athletes and more coaches than we have faculty, athletics is essentially a school within a school. Athletic Director Rotondi is an excellent asset to our District. But he's one person. Through a new Athletic Committee and comprehensive handbook, we're ensuring our sports programs align with our educational mission, teaching leadership, wellness, and sportsmanship alongside athletic skills.

These goals represent more than improvements—they're a commitment to innovation grounded in what matters most to our community. Together, we're creating a Cohasset education that prepares students not just for tests, but for life. There should be a lot of excitement for the journey ahead, and if our spotlight students are a representation of what could be, then we've painted an excellent target at which to aim.

Sincerely,

Brian T. Scott

Principal

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Sign-ups for Parent Teacher Conferences will be opening at 3:00 on today. The link to sign up and directions if this is your first time are listed here. Just as a reminder time is tight and we have many families to get through. This is not a time to meet with coaches or advisors. We certainly welcome those meetings, or longer meetings with teachers if you wish. Those conversations should just happen outside of this process.

Directions: https://www.cohassetk12.org/departments/technology/tech-for-families/departments/technology/tech-for-families/mshs-parent-teacher-conferences

Shed

Many thanks to the wrestling boosters led by Lisa Buckley and Marc Perrone in renovating the Snack Shack! We had 9 wrestlers volunteer and several parents! A big thanks to Marc Perrone who facilitated all the updates including completing the pre-work prior to the service days to get ready, purchasing supplies, providing instructions to the volunteers and cleaning up.

Following are the wrestlers and parents that participated:

  • Jack Roach
  • Liam Roach
  • Jay Naples
  • Cole Buckley
  • Paul Chapman
  • Randall Kennedy
  • Ryan Perrone
  • Adrian Saiz
  • Gavin Campbell
  • Michael Shannon (signed up but was sick the day of)

And the parents who jumped in:

  • Paul & Brandy Chapman
  • Chip Kennedy
  • Montse Saiz
  • Sarah & Ken Shannon
  • Pete Buckley

Also, the Campbell family representing the lacrosse boosters will be contributing a new “C” sign that they commissioned from Hassan Sign, and the Alberti family made a generous donation from proceeds of their waffle sales at the football game. This provided the paint, brushes, and other tools.

This was a true team effort and we’re excited to show off the updated snack shack at the 10/30 football game when it opens next. Thanks for all your help in pulling this together and allowing us the flexibility to work on it, and get it done.

Go Skippers!

Club Fair!

Last Friday we hosted a Club Fair during utility. Over 35 clubs set up to advertise and recruit new members. At the most recent School Committee meeting, new member Jake Squatrito mentioned that if he could do it all over again he would have signed up for debate as a 9th grader. You can be that 9th grader! Washington DC Trip Was Open for Business!

Last week almost 30 students went to DC with Ms. Blouin and Ms. Gittens-Carle. Despite the government shutdown students were able to visit the sites and tour some local colleges (and even ran into one former student turned college tour guide). Thank you to the CEF for making this happen.

Science is Never Weather Dependent

Dr. Duncan's Marine Science classes continue their daily treks to Cohasset Harbor to study a variety of marine ecosystems, regardless of the weather. Here are a few students braving the elements outside and in (not sure CSCR has heat).

HIGH SCHOOL HEALTH SCREENINGS

9th and 10th grade health screenings will be starting next week (Oct. 14th) in the high school nurse’s office.

The freshman class will be screened for scoliosis. This requires students to remove their shirts so that the spine can be evaluated. The screening is performed in a private examination room.

The sophomore class will be screened for hearing, vision, height and weight.

At all times student’s privacy will be respected.

If a student does not pass the screenings the parents/guardians will be notified by the school nurse.

Please email Mrs. Collins R.N. jcollins@cohassetk12.org if you would like to opt your student out of the screenings or if you have any questions.
