Weekly Memo
Some thoughts for the starting school year

Hi Everyone,
I hope you all have had a nice week and enjoyed some of that sunshine. Good luck to all of our All State Band and Chorus students who are performing in Orono this week. We can't wait to hear how you all did! We are excited to have the Junior Prom on Saturday. All students attending the prom will have an informative safety meeting tomorrow during Pride.
We are officially kicking off our end-of-year celebrations next Thursday evening with our Underclass Awards Night. If your student is receiving an award, you would have received an invitation in the mail this week. This is a great event to recognize our students in grades 9-11. Next Tuesday is the last full day of school for our seniors and graduation is only 22 days away. Today was a BIG DAY as I signed all of the diplomas for the Class of 2025!
Please take a few minutes to fill out this SURVEY regarding York School Department's Title Grant Funding. Your opinion matters!!
Thank you for your continued support and if you have any questions please don't hesitate to reach out to Liza or me.
Thanks,
Amanda
Congratulations to this week's Seacoast Student of the Week: Quinn Walenta! Each week, we nominate a student from York High School to be featured in the Seacoast Online. Here is what we said about Quinn:
York High School would like to recognize Quinn Walenta, a standout senior at York High School, as our Seacoast Student of the Week. Last month, Walenta officially joined the elite ranks of Wildcat athletes, scoring his 100th career goal as a varsity lacrosse player. The milestone marks his latest accomplishment in a high school career defined by academic excellence, leadership, and solid character.
A three-sport athlete, Walenta has represented YHS as a four-year varsity player on both the school's soccer and lacrosse teams and played Unified Basketball team for the past 2 years. His dedication and athleticism have made him a cornerstone of York High's sports programs and a respected figure among teammates and coaches alike.
Next year, Walenta will continue his lacrosse career at Connecticut College, where he plans to bring his competitive spirit and work ethic to the collegiate level, while studying Economics.
As impressive as Walenta’s athletic career has been, his impact extends far beyond the sports fields. As President of York High School’s Future Business Leaders of America chapter, a member of the National Honor Society, and an active contributor to the local community, he’s known for his natural leadership, kindness, and genuine drive to uplift those around him.
“Quinn represents the very best of York High,” said one of his teachers. “He leads with humility, competes with heart, and treats everyone with respect. He’s truly an exceptional young man.”
Prom is on Saturday!! It is always fun to see the students dressed up and having a great night. Please remember that we have partnered with YORKWISE and York Police Department, to help foster a healthy and safe prom, and will be having all students and guests entering the prom take a breathalyzer test. Ms. Mockeridge and Dr. Suttie will be administering the tests. If students do not pass, then parents will be called to pick up their student. If students refuse to take the test, they will not be allowed admittance to the dance and parents will be called to pick them up. If parents have any questions regarding this decision please feel free to reach out to Dr. Suttie.
Road Closure
We are getting one step closer to our new stadium field, but we will need to close down a road in order to get the plumbing figured out (yay for real bathrooms!). Please take note of the message below and plan accordingly.

Spring Testing Information
Next week we begin our spring testing season. Please review the following information to see when your student will be assessing:
April 14 - May 30:
- All sophomores (grade 10) will be taking the Maine Through Year Assessment (MTYA).
- This is the state assessment that they took in the fall.
- This is a computer-based test, and all students will be provided a district device.
- Students will be taking the assessment in their math and English classes. Teachers will share with the students when they will be assessing.
April 29 - May 13:
- All students in grades 9-11 will be taking the Spring i-Ready Diagnostic in their Prides.
- We will have an extended Pride during all four days so that students have the opportunity to complete their assessment, without disruption. This schedule will be shared before vacation.
- Students will not be provided district issued devices, so they will need to bring their own laptop charged and ready to go during all four days.
- SRTC students will not be taking the diagnostic.
May 5 - May 16:
- AP Exams
- If students have questions about their specific test date and/or location they can talk with their AP teacher.
