Legacy Ledger
Leadership Letter
Dear Legacy Academy Community,
As we take a couple weeks off from school and close in on the Christmas celebration, I looked up some history on how it became a national holiday. I found the following on the US Postal System website:
Historians believe the holiday (Christmas) originated in Rome in the year 336. As Christianity spread across the world, the celebration of Christmas became more widespread and the holiday evolved to include both religious and cultural traditions, such as exchanging gifts, decorating trees and family gatherings.
In the United States, President Ulysses S. Grant signed legislation that made Christmas a federal holiday in 1870. The law applied only to federal workers and the District of Columbia, but the observance of Christmas as a legal holiday was eventually adopted by all states.
One of the most common words associated with this national holiday is joy. Songs with joy in the title abound. We also use the word “joy” in our school to describe the feeling we have in living life well and in serving others. Doing our best at a task or endeavor also brings us joy, which can be defined as “a deep, lasting inner state of contentment, peace, and purpose, independent of circumstances.” This is sometimes confused with happiness, a temporary, situational emotion from external wins or success. We could think of happiness as an emotion from outside, and joy as a state of being or choice from within that persists even during tough times, making it more resilient and profound.
Wishing you all “Joy to the World” this Holiday season,
Merlin Holmes
Executive Director

SCIENCE FAIR PLANNING
Our annual Legacy Science Fair is scheduled for March 5th. Get those ideas going but make sure you check the requirements before starting because your experiment must ask a testable scientific question. Detailed guidelines and project requirements will be available in January. While participation is optional, we encourage all students to join in and share their creative scientific projects.
NEW Policy for Club & Extracurriculars - PLEASE READ!
Our after school club program is expanding to include more opportunities for students to explore new interests. After school clubs give students the opportunity to strengthen friendships, develop new talents and engage in a fun academic manner. Through hands-on activities, teamwork, and problem solving, students strengthen their academic and social emotional skills as well as leadership skills.
Reminders of clubs/extracurricular policies:
Permission Slips: Students must have a signed permission slip form before they can participate.
Payment Policy: Space is limited and is on a first come, first served basis. You are not registered until payment is received and the instructor has verified your application has been received. Refunds will not be given. Example: Your child registered for one club, then decided they want to attend a different club - we will not give a refund.
Date Cancellations: If we have to cancel a date due to weather or other reasons there will NOT be a makeup day.
Pick Up: Please make sure your child is picked up promptly at the end of the scheduled club time. If you are late, your child will go to aftercare and you will incur a fee from after care. Your teacher will let you know where to pick up your child and the time.
Snacks: You may want to send your child an extra snack on club days.
We look forward to providing our students with after school enriching experiences. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to the leader of your club.
