Dear Welty Familia,

You know how zebra stripes are all unique, but together they form one strong herd? School success is just like that. Every day you show up, you’re strengthening our community, tracking new knowledge, and discovering fresh horizons on this learning adventure. 🦓✨

At Mary Welty School, being present in class is the first step of our daily safari. When students are here, they’re exploring new ideas, forging friendships, and discovering what makes them roar. It’s not always a smooth trail—sometimes we have to navigate tall grass and tricky paths—but every day at school brings us closer to our biggest dreams.

So let's stick together like a trusted expedition team and commit to showing up every day. With determined young explorers and supportive families, no summit is too high and no goal is too far across the savanna for us to reach.

Now, let’s make some noise—because Welty kids are ready to stand out and lead the pack! We're doing our BEST to be the BEST! 🌟

Warm regards,

Mariebeth Silva

🦓🦁➕ Safari, Savanna, and Math Facts—Oh My! ✨

Timon would say, “Hakuna Matata! It means no worries… and in the morning, we’re tracking math facts!”

🥞 Well, math fact fluency is kind of like a sturdy safari jeep—it’s the reliable vehicle that gives students the engine power they need to traverse the vast, wild territory ahead.

Just like a lion relies on its sharp senses to navigate the savanna, our students need strong math facts to tackle tricky terrain. When they’ve got their facts down, their brains are free to focus on the big game—like multi-step word problems and complex equations. It’s like having a trusty guide at your side, always ready to point you in the right direction! 🦏✨

So grab your binoculars, field journals, and sun hats—it’s time for a math expedition!

Because math at Welty? It’s not just work—it’s a wild safari adventure! 🦒💪

  • Math Games with household items

    • Math Dice Race: Roll two dice, add or multiply the numbers, and the highest total wins a point. First to 10 points wins.

    • Deck of Cards "War" (Math Edition): Flip two cards each. Add or multiply them together—the player with the higher total keeps all four cards.

    • Living Room Measurement Hunt: Call out a length (e.g., "Find something 6 inches long!"). Players race with a tape measure or ruler to find an exact match.

    • Fraction Pizza Party: Draw paper pizzas, cut them into slices, and call out orders (e.g., "Serve me 3/8 with pepperoni!") to practice fractions.

    • Math Freeze Dance: Play music while everyone dances. When the music stops, call out a fast equation (e.g., "7 + 8!"). The first to shout the right answer picks the next dance move.
