Committee Sharing 2/27

Our staff collaboration time Thursday morning on 2/27 will involve each of our committees sharing out the work they have been focused on to advance our School Improvement Plan, mission statement, and beliefs. Some may present something they have been working on aligned to strategies in the SIP, others may be providing updates on their work with student/teachers/tips/next steps. You will have time during Committee Collaboration this week on 2/13.

Leads, please touch base with Kim with questions for this week's work as well as your thoughts about your committee's share on 2/27 (which can be by the lead or anyone on the committee!). The share on 2/27 should be no more than 5 minutes. The goal would be to put some brief summary, visual, or document in our Staff OneNote for folks to access. You can send that to Kim to include by 2/26. Thank you.

Welcome RyanI

Hello everybody! My name is Ryan Dossey, and I’m excited to be joining the team as a new IT specialist. I bring a passion for technology and commitment to supporting the staff and students. Outside of work I enjoy watching sports and golfing. I look forward to meeting and working with all of you. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you need any IT assistance!

Interim Assistant Principal

We are excited that TIM MANKIN will be joining us to assist administratively at FCI until our new Assistant Principal has been named and arrived. Tim will be taking behavior supports/discipline and some ACR coverage during his time with us among other things.

As many of you know, Tim was the principal at HIJH and has years of experience working with middle level students. He will start at FCI on Wednesday, February 12th and stay with us until March 21st. Welcome, Tim!

Welcome Cameron!

Cameron Warnick joins FCI as our additional perm sub!! We are so excited to have TWO perm subs now in our building! We hope you will meet Cameron and get to know more about him soon.

Short Observations

A note that Amy Knerr will be assisting with remaining short observations beginning next week. She is excited and ready to be in your classrooms. As you may remember, Amy and Kim had opportunities earlier in the year to complete observations together to ensure inter-rater reliability. If you would like to chat with Amy before/after she has sent your observation, please feel free to reach out. And of course...she is still working in her main focus of Instructional Coach! [Note that Kim will be completing your finalizations.]

She has finished all but one STEM classroom collaboration lesson related to our focus on small groups this year. She's eager to begin her work with Humanities classes soon!

Day of Service

HSE HS is currently planning for this year’s Day of Service which will be held on Friday, April 25. They would love to partner with FCI again. This provides an opportunity the HS students to serve, our students to see a good model for serving, and also allows our previous Falcons to come back to FCI as they love to serve in their own intermediate school!

Please consider signing up for an opportunity for our HS students to serve by February 28th! Feel free to use the OTHER category to be creative in your use/involvement. [e.g., recess (positive play/conflict resolution), science experiment, read aloud, use in RA, etc.] Thank you!

Learning Lab - Assessment Hub

The Assessment Hub link below is valuable to keep close and utilize. The blueprints are easily accessible here as well as the checkpoints upcoming for next year in case anyone is interested in taking a peek.

There will definitely be some focus upcoming about our scope & sequence and how it aligns to the checkpoint. Stay tuned.

Ramadan

Should students share with you that they would like a location to PRAY or go during LUNCH, please complete the Ramadan 2025.xlsx so we may be prepared to welcome students. Currently, students are in the library most days during these times. However, please check in with the office if you haven't done so already as students are added to the schedule.

Falcon Frenzy

The Falcon Frenzy is coming up February 11th. How could you participate, you ask? We need support in the bleachers with students, hallway monitoring between games/half-time, dismissal @ 6pm! Your students would love to see you whether they are on the team or in the cheering section!

Please sign up with your availability in this spreadsheet; Falcon Frenzy February 2025 (Girls). Anyone who comes for at least an hour gets jeans days for 2/11 AND 2/12 (day of...and day of recovery - ha!) Thank you for considering!

District blood drive

The district blood drive is scheduled for 2/14 and there are still openings to schedule. There will be extra special treats for you to munch after your donation. I may even let you have 2 treats.

Register here:

If you can't make it to the 2/14 blood drive, Lantern Road Elementary is having their blood drive 2/8 from 10am-1pm. Have some breakfast at their Pancake Breakfast and donate blood. It's a win win (see the flyer attached for details).

ILEARN - Test Administrator Certification

This is for all staff with an active teaching license.

Please complete the ILEARN TEST ADMINISTRATOR CERTIFICATION by 3/7 as there will be other ILEARN items to come throughout the spring and ILEARN Practice tests will be given two weeks before Spring Break. You may choose to do this whenever you like including your teacher-directed collaboration/work times, prep, or other times you choose.

Note that this must be done every year and is different from the DOE Test Security & Integrity Training 2024-25 that you completed in the HSE SafeSchools training modules. This certification takes approximately 30 minutes to complete. This is a requirement for all Test Administrators before giving the Practice test. Please ensure that you pay attention to and watch this certification as it is important information on features to learn how to administer the online assessment.

How to get to TEST ADMINISTRATOR CERTIFICATION:

  1. Navigate to Indiana's ILEARN Portal. (https://indiana.portal.cambiumast.com/ilearn.html)
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the screen click on TEST ADMINISTRATOR CERTIFICATION under the PREPARING FOR THE TEST section.
  3. Log In and complete the training. (If you forget your password, click on FORGOT YOUR PASSWORD. Even if you remember your password, you will likely have to create a new password by the system as you have not used it since last Spring.)
  4. Complete all items.
  5. Logout.
  6. You do not need to submit your completion certificate to Kim as it is recorded in the TIDE system. Howver, feel free to keep a copy for your records if you like. Kim is able to view it online.

All staff new to FCI should have been added to the TIDE PORTAL. Enter your HSE email address and request a new password. If you do not have a log-in, email Kim right away.

ILEARN app

For those 6th graders who have a family-owned iPad, it will be important that they download the ILEARN app prior to March 14th so you all may have time to double check that students all have the app prior to the practice test on 3/25. This will also be included in the Falcon Flyer in the coming weeks.

End of the year

It seems way to early to think about end of the year items, but it will be here before you know it! Due to construction of temporary classrooms beginning the middle of May, we will not be able to have our whole school video & teacher dance in the gym as we have traditionally done.

Therefore, the idea has been proposed to continue with our all-school video for each team to watch on the last day of school in the morning. The video typically includes 8-10 pictures of each team and additional segments of the school family. Since we won't have the teacher dance, initial thoughts were that each team would come up with something that would be videoed and submitted for inclusion in the overall video after your team's picture collage. Students could be creative and come up with an idea!

Some items to note:

  • 6th grade party - We believe that this will still be able to be held
  • 6th grade Talent Show - under consideration; if held, it would have to be done in two viewing sessions as it would have to be in the cafe

As you brainstorm things, email Kim for consideration! Think outside the box for ways to celebrate the end of the year!
