Bryan Middle School Attendance Matters: Every Minute Counts!

Dear Bryan Middle School Families,

As we embark on another school year, I want to take a moment to emphasize the vital role that daily attendance plays in your child’s success. At Bryan Middle School, we believe that every day offers a new opportunity for learning, growth, and achievement. However, consistent attendance is key to unlocking those opportunities.

Why Does Attendance Matter?

It’s simple: students who attend school regularly are more likely to perform well academically. Studies have shown that missing even a small amount of instructional time can have a significant impact on grades and understanding of the material. When students are not present, they miss out on important discussions, hands-on activities, and the chance to engage with their teachers and peers. It becomes harder to catch up, and learning gaps can develop, leading to a ripple effect across multiple subjects.

The Impact of Being Late: Just 5 Minutes a Day Adds Up

I also want to highlight the importance of being on time. We often think of a few minutes here or there as minor, but when a student is late—even by just 5 minutes every day—it adds up to over 15 hours of lost learning over the course of a year! That’s valuable instruction time they will never get back. By arriving on time, students start the day ready to learn and participate fully in their classes.

How You Can Help

We know mornings can be hectic, but by making attendance and punctuality a priority, you’re helping set your student up for success. Here’s how you can support:

  • Set a routine: Establish a morning routine that gives your student enough time to get ready and arrive at school on time.
  • Plan for drop-off: If you drop your student off at school, try to leave a few minutes earlier to avoid traffic or unexpected delays.
  • Stay engaged: Regularly check your student’s attendance and grades. If you notice patterns of tardiness or absences, reach out to us. We’re here to help!

Let’s work together to ensure that all our students are in class, on time, and ready to learn every day. Your partnership in this effort makes a tremendous difference in your child’s academic performance and overall school experience.

Thank you for your continued support, and let’s make this a great year at Bryan Middle School!

Sincerely,
Mr. Karmazin
Principal, Bryan Middle School

From the Counselors From the Counselors

Here are 5 ways to support your child with their academics!

  1. Check their grades in Infinite Campus at least once a week and remember to give positive feedback when your child is doing well and ask them about missing assignments or low grades. https://campus.ops.org/campus/portal/parents/ops.jsp

  2. Look over planners which are used to assist each student in setting personal goals, record achievement, managing time, recording class assignments, check-off completed assignments.

  3. Encourage your child to do at least 30 Minutes of Success Maker lessons a week in math or their Reading Inventory.

  4. Encourage your students to do some of the following to help keep up with deadlines. We understand that sometimes we can’t make it to school, so keeping in contact with their teacher about where they can access their missing work will help them stay on track!

  5. Does your child need a tutor? Contact us to inquire about tutoring after school in the library! Offered Tuesdays-Thursday until 5pm, contact Mrs Raszler for more information, Lisa.raszler@ops.org. Or if your child would like to stay afterschool (Tuesday-Thursday) to work on homework/missing assignments, email their counselor and have them sign up for academic recovery!

Please contact a counselor if you have questions or concerns at any time!

MAP Growth Testing in September MAP Growth Testing in September

MAP Growth Testing is coming! MAP Growth is an adaptive achievement and growth test. It creates a personalized assessment experience by adapting to each student's learning level - precisely measuring progress and growth for each individual student. If your child correctly answers a MAP question, the computer assessment provides a harder question next. If they miss that same question, then an easier MAP question is asked. This provides essential information about what your child knows and is ready to learn.
