WEEKLY RECAP
We had another fun-filled week, with extension activities aligned to our Portrait of a Graduate skills: Skilled Communicators, Effective Collaborators, Innovative and Critical Thinkers, Resilient Learners, and Civic and Global Contributors.
Our Women in Leadership group visited JCCC for a campus tour and to learn more about leadership skills. We also welcomed back Miles Muehlbach, Elliot Jaynes, and Yabo Wang to Indian Hills to host the 2nd annual Cybersecurity Competition. Congrats to Jiya Bhavsar & Isabelle Beltrame for winning 1st place!
In 7th grade advanced science, architects from Populous provided valuable feedback on students’ New City Models. Meanwhile, sculpture students began collaborating with local artist Jenny McCall on the 70th anniversary project.

ATTENDANCE
We know showing up to school isn’t always easy. Some days feel heavier than others—and that’s okay. What matters most is knowing you don’t have to face those days alone.
For students:
If you're feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or just not yourself…..Talk to someone you trust—a friend, teacher, counselor, or parent. Being at school helps you stay connected, supported, and on track, even when things feel tough.
For parents:
Open conversations at home make a big difference.
Checking in
Listening without judgment
Partnering with the school can help your child feel supported both emotionally and academically.
Remember:
Showing up doesn’t mean being perfect—it means taking one step forward. And sometimes, that step is the bravest thing you can do.
If you need support, reach out. We’re here for you—every single day. 💛
CHARACTER STRONG: SESSION 23
7th Grade: Well-being in practice
This is the 3rd of 4 sessions on well-being. In this session, we continue to work together to generate and share ideas for ways we can boost our well-being.
8th Grade: Using Values to Increase Belonging (Overcoming Obstacles)
In this session students work together to identify things that can get in the way of their shared goals for the school community and come up with strategies to combat them.
Family CharacterDare: Sweet Surprise
Surprise a family member with something you know they will love. Grab their favorite candy or snack. Draw a doodle or encouraging words. See if you can get away with it being totally anonymous and pretend like it wasn’t you if they ask.
CLUB HIGHLIGHT
White Rose Essay Contest
The White Rose Student Research Contest is an academic competition for students in grades 8–12 that focuses on learning about the Holocaust through research and critical thinking. Students can enter by submitting either a research essay or a documentary, based on a specific theme that changes each year.
This year, students were asked to reflect on how propaganda can promote inclusion or exclusion, and how it impacts how we consume and evaluate media today.
Good luck to our students who represent Indian Hills and have submitted entries to the contest!
DINNER TABLE TALK
This week’s Table Talk prompt encourages kindness and outward focus. We ask, “Who did you help today?” Asked regularly, this question makes kindness more reflexive. It gently shifts attention away from self and toward others, while also signaling that helping people matters and is worth noticing.
8th GRADE MAIN EVENT
8th-grade celebrations are new, and we are so excited to go to Main Event on Friday, May 1st!
Knight Time teachers will hand out the field trip permission slips during Knight Time on 4/20, and permission slips will be due on 4/24. Please be on the lookout for these permission slips from your student!
SME FEMALE ATHLETE CLUB EVENT
On May 2nd, at 10:00 AM in the Shawnee Mission East cafeteria, the SME Female Athlete Club will be hosting our Hygiene Kit Packing Event for female athletes! This is an event open to girls from Indian Hills and Shawnee Mission East that participate in various sports to come together to pack hygiene kits, while also getting the chance to meet the Varsity coaches from the different sports at East. The hygiene kits will be sent to girls attending the Hoops 4 Her basketball empowerment camp in Kenya this summer!
