Introducing Ruth Lopez Introducing Ruth Lopez

Ruth is the sparkling employee with the colorful, vibrantly patterned skirts who works evenings at the Hubbs Center. She divides her time assisting with George Schooley’s ELL-A2 classes working behind the scenes in the advising & administrative offices where she cleans laptops and inputs data, or as the hospitality ambassador making coffee for the students and staff three nights each week.

Ruth is a first generation college student, starting her first year and was referred to the Hubbs Center for a work-study employment opportunity because she is interested in pursuing a career in social work. She is also interested in pursuing two minors in psychology and studio art.

Art is a strong interest and passion for Ruth, who is working towards a minor in Studio Arts and enjoys a variety of art mediums such as ceramics, drawing, painting, photography, and graphic design. Ruth was the recipient of statewide honors at the Minnesota State High School League contest for her Mixed Media painting submission. Ruth credits her inspiration to her love of impressionism, and especially the works of Vincent Van Gogh and Claude Monet. Ruth plans to include Art Therapy in her Social Work practice upon graduation.

In her free time, she enjoys roller skating, roller blading, and watching documentaries. She also enjoys going to church and spending time with her family. Her faith is very important to her and is the center of her life, and helps guide her everyday.

Many thanks to Ruth for her contributions to the Hubbs Center.

CareerForce is now open in Metro Square

CareerForce in Saint Paul opened its doors at a new location in the Metro Square Building, moving from its previous site at Fairview and University Avenue. The new space is designed to better serve job seekers and employers with the help of state and county staff. The range of career services includes job search assistance, resume writing support and coordinated referrals with workforce training and education partners.

The CareerForce site is located across the hall from Ramsey County’s downtown Service Center, making it easier for visitors to access workforce services while receiving other county support.

The CareerForce team was excited to welcome Bobby, who was seeking help with his job search! “The service I received today was excellent,” said Bobby, the first visitor at the new location. “I feel like I’m on the right track now.”

Bobby worked with a career counselor to refine his resume and explore job opportunities.

During its opening week, CareerForce served 104 job seekers and is now open and ready to serve residents and continuing its mission to connect people with meaningful work.
