Lighting up Lawrence
Diwali, also known as Deepawali, is the Hindu festival of lights, a holiday that celebrates the triumph of good over evil. Deepawali, which translates to ‘a row of lights’ is one of the most significant Hindu festivals and falls on November 4th this year. The festival is celebrated over a period of 5 days (November 2nd-November 6th). The LHS International Alliance Club would to like to spread some Diwali cheer in the community. With your help we would like to purchase and deliver freshly made Diwali sweets to the staff of our local public schools, Public Library, and the two post offices. Deliveries will be made between 9:00-11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 2nd and Wednesday, November 3rd. Goodie trays will include: Boondi laddoos with greeting cards, Diwali write-ups and Diyas/Lanterns with battery operated tea-lights. In addition to the graduation party, the funds they raise let them celebrate every senior with lawn signs, commemorative gifts, and giveaways. None of this can happen without the support of the Lawrence community. Check out their flyer to see how easy it is to support Project Graduation and the Class of 2022!
BRAG BAG
We are the Champions
The LHS field hockey team knocked off top-seeded Lawrenceville Prep on October 19th to move on to the finals of the MCT tournament. On October 21st, the Lady Cards defeated PDS 5-4 in a "golden goal" overtime thriller to become the Mercer County Field Hockey Champions for the first time since 1983! The game-winning goal came from freshman Caroline Rotteveel on an assist from senior Talia Schenck (who scored 4, and currently leads the nation in goals this season). Click here to read the article and view more photos on NJ.com.
Then on Wednesday, October 27th, the team dominated the Cranford Cougars 8-1 in the first round of the state tournament. The girls overwhelmed Cranford for 4 quarters to move on to the quarterfinals. Next up, the Cardinals travel to Northern Highlands High School on Tuesday, November 2nd to face the 4th-seeded Highlanders!
Congratulations to the team and Coach Errico, and best of luck next week!
Full STEAM Ahead!
Members of the Art in STEAM Committee, Sara Dassanayake, Aleksandra Mondrzik, Mariya Stefiniv, and Prajna Karmaker recently switched roles as they went from students to teachers during this week's "Nature's Watercolor Lab." Participants were shown the science behind paint pigments as they made ink out of the most natural source imaginable...nature itself! After creating colors from flowers, berries, and other plants, students used the ink to paint an autumn-inspired masterpiece.
