Cliff's Notes
Dear Bedford Public Schools Community,
I spent the whole day at Davis School earlier this week, and it was wonderful to be surround by staff and students in the midst of teaching and learning--lots of smiles! We continue to invite feedback on the 2024-2027 BPS Strategic Plan for Public Comment - September 10, 2024 via Strategic Planning Survey #3 - Fall 2024 or meetings, and to look for volunteers via School Start Times Working Group Interest Survey and Middle School Math Working Group Interest Survey.
Best,

2023-2024 Grade 3 Quilt takes First Place at the Marshfield Fair
Every year, Audrey Ferguson (3rd Grade Teacher at Lane) has her students make a square panel according to a topic they learn about in third grade. Parents or grandparents volunteer to put the quilt together and Audrey enters it into The Marshfield Fair. She then hangs the quilt from her former students to see when they return from summer vacation. This allows her new students to have the opportunity to preview and learn from these "Teaching Quilts." This year, Audrey's daughter, Essie, entered the "Life Lessons" quilt, created by Ms. Ferguson's 2023-2024 3rd grade class, together by machine piecing the squares, and hand quilting it, and it won First Place! Other quilts have won First Place and have been put together in Bedford and as far away as Norway. Audrey's student's grandmother sent "The American Colonial Quilt" to school with her grandchildren in Norway so they could learn from the teaching quilt before she brought the quilt to Bedford, while visiting her family! Another quilt, "Natural Hazards/Natural Disasters", was put together in India by one of Audrey's students and her Grandmother, on an extended family visit! All of these quilts are special and Audrey is able to remember all of her students from their "quilt square", especially when they graduate!
