Congratulations Ms. Nguyen - MAPs Award Winner!
Principal's Message
Hello Lincoln Community,
We are already around the corner to finish the 2024 year. We have had many achievements and many challenges that have helped us grow. We are very grateful for the privilege of being able to serve you. This week we had many interesting activities and we want to share them with you.
Let's keep in mind that as our students get ready for winter break, as always we have to finish this week with a lot of effort and dedication in their studies. Please encourage your children to continue the good work of coming to school and focus on their academic and social-emotional development.
This week: We had the posada for migrant families. We had a lot of fun eating, listening to music, providing assistance information and for migrant families, we played lottery and had raffles. Many thanks to Amaris Chaves and Diana Tapia for organizing this event.
Shop with the Cops: Some of our students had the opportunity to shop with the cops. It was a very fun experience for them and they learned about how public servants work in the community. You can see the photos in this newsletter.
Winter Festival: This week we will have two very important celebrations. One of them is the Winter festival. We want to clarify that the festival time will be from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. We will have lots of fun crafts and projects to complete as a family. You can't miss it!
PBIS Assembly: On Friday we will have our assembly. Students will be able to come in their pajamas! During the assembly we will have fun activities, such as teacher and student competitions, the dolphin will visit us, we will have recognition for attendance and academic excellence. We will also have songs and I want to share with you the songs that we are going to have in this assembly. The songs are: Frosty The Snowman, Jingle Bells Rock, and Feliz Navidad.
Appropriate clothing: As you have seen we have had low temperatures. We are constantly monitoring temperatures to make sure we do not have outside recess if it is too cold. If the temperature allows it and there is no rain, then we go out to the playground. For this reason, we are asking that students please bring appropriate winter clothing.
Winter blanket and hat drive: Our student leadership has set out to have blankets and hat drive to help families in need. If you have the opportunity, we are asking for blankets and hats that you can donate to give to families in need. These blankets can be the small ones that you use to cover your back or put on your legs to stay warm. Thank you very much for your cooperation.
Winner: The MAPS bank launched a call to write a grant proposal and Mrs. Nguyen, our 5th grade teacher applied. MAPS received over 250 submissions and Mrs. Nguyen's submission was the winner. She will be using the funds for materials and resources in her classroom to help her students in their academic development. Congratulations Mrs. Nguyen!
Visitor: This week we received a visit from Mr. Santos. He works for the company Google and presented information to students about careers in technology. It was a very interesting time for the students and they had the opportunity to ask many questions. You will be able to see the picture in this newsletter.
Attendance: This week we began tracking attendance by grade. We will see which grade had the highest attendance and we will also see in each grade which classroom has the highest attendance. The classroom with the most attendance will have a special visit from the dolphin. Today we are announcing which grade won first place and next week we will announce the classrooms that win first place in their grade level. Please continue to encourage your children to attend school. Remember that we are here to assist you with any need so that together we continue with the goal of helping our students.
First place: Fourth Grade
Second place: First Grade
Third place: Kindergarten
Questions: As always, please feel free to send your questions or feedback to us at teresa.alfaro@woodburnsd.org or pmcdougal@woodburnsd.org. Go Dolphins!

What is the Integrated Plan? The Woodburn School District - Integrated Plan is a framework designed to ensure that our District is focused on equity, academic achievement, and the well-being of all students. Whether it's improving curriculum, enhancing mental health support, or creating safe learning environments, this plan lays the foundation for lasting success.
Please Review our Plan: A link to access the Integrated Plan is provided here:
It includes links for the Slide Deck in English, Spanish, and Russian. It also provides informational videos, as well as the Survey in multiple languages.
Provide Feedback: Additionally, we would like to get your input to help us identify priorities for the 2025-27 District Integrated Plan and our School Improvement Plan.
Please complete this survey. You can read the questions or you can listen to the questions.
Oregon State Assessments
Woodburn School District is committed to preparing every learner with academic knowledge and skills necessary for success beyond high school. Oregon’s statewide assessments in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics are fully aligned to Oregon’s State Standards and provide students in grades 3-8 and 11, along with their families, one measure of academic achievement and growth. Assessment results identify your child’s strengths and areas for improvement in English Language Arts and Math. Each subject will be broken into categories and will show how well your child performed in each area. The assessments measure student learning on a scale that allows for comparisons across time.
While no single assessment can give a complete picture of your child’s progress, having your child take the statewide assessments provides educators, administrators, and parents with one source of information about what educational approaches are working and where additional resources may be needed. The data from state assessments helps inform district systems, supports and professional development for educators. Your child’s participation is important to ensure our schools receive the targeted resources they need to help all students succeed. Lincoln Elementary will share your child’s scores with you at the end of the current school year or the beginning of the next to help support your child’s success as they move from grade to grade.
Student-Parent Handbook - Woodburn School District
Each year throughout the Woodburn School District we distribute the Student-Parent Handbook. This is an important resource that provides information about rights and responsibilities, expectations and accountability, and systems and procedures. It's linked here in English, Spanish, and Russian.
- English: Student-Parent Handbook
- Español: Manual Para Estudiantes y Padres
- Russian: Руководство для учеников и родителей
Every Day Matters - Focus on Attendance
This year we are continuing to pay close attention to ensuring that children are present at school regularly, because Every Day Matters.
Setting High Goals: We're focusing on attendance because last year 58% of our students were regular attenders (attended more than 90% of the days) and 42% were chronically absent (attended less than 90% of the days). The 58% was an improvement from the previous year when we had 51% of our students who were regular attenders. For the current school year our school leadership has set the goal to improve from 58% up to 70%. WE CAN DO IT!
So Important: There's a very strong correlation between good attendance and student success in school. Please see the visual below for more information.
Safe Oregon: If You See Something, Say Something
Safe Oregon. Feel Safe. Be Safe.
Remember, if you see something, say something. If you become aware of a safety concern please report it to our school office at 503-981-2925 or anytime of the day.

SafeOregon gives students, parents, schools, and their communities a way to report safety issues or threats confidentially or anonymously with a simple phone call, text, email or by using the web form or mobile app.
