News from the Nest!
October 23, 2026
Dear Palmer River Elementary School Community,
What a blast we all had last Saturday night at our annual PTSA Trunk or Treat! Even though the temperatures were a bit chilly, our students were all smiles as they showed off their costumes and enjoyed a fun night with friends and family! A big thank you to our PTSA and all of the volunteers who helped organize such a fun event for our school community. We also want to thank the staff and families who put so much time and creativity into decorating their trunks. Somehow, they seem to get better and better every year!
This week, we enjoyed some beautiful fall weather and plenty of time outside at recess! Our students continue to impress us with their hard work in the classroom and the many ways they are demonstrating our October Monthly Mindset of Responsibility. It is always great to see our students putting what they are learning into practice throughout the school day! We also celebrated the annual second grade Math-or-Treat Night on Thursday. Students had a blast and practiced some fun math games, too!
Next week, we will wrap up October and welcome November! We are also looking forward to our Veterans Day Tribute on Tuesday, November 10th, when we will have the opportunity to honor and thank the veterans in our community for their service.
Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kristine Kefor, Principal and Mrs. Cassey Monte, Assistant Principal

Dismissal Reminder to Parents/Guardians
As previously communicated in our August newsletter and again on October 9, all requests for changes to your child’s dismissal plan must be submitted by email (or phone in the event of an emergency) no later than 2:45 p.m. We understand that the pick-up line by the gym may look long, but it moves quickly and is typically cleared by approximately 3:25 p.m. The 2:45 p.m. deadline is essential to allow our staff adequate time to communicate changes and ensure all students are dismissed safely and efficiently. Please plan accordingly and adhere to this deadline. While we understand that emergencies can arise, last-minute changes cannot be guaranteed and will be handled on a case-by-case basis. Thank you for your attention to this important procedure and for helping us maintain a safe and organized dismissal process.
Falco's Flight: Soaring Together at PRES!
We are excited to share that Palmer River Elementary has begun the gradual rollout of Falco's Flight, our new school-wide positive behavior recognition program! This initiative celebrates students who consistently demonstrate our four school-wide expectations: Be Kind, Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Safe.
We are kicking off Falco's Flight in the cafeteria, where classrooms are working together to earn a Golden Feather by demonstrating positive behavior and following cafeteria expectations. Each day, staff members on cafeteria duty recognize classes that demonstrate these expectations and award Golden Feathers. Classes earning a Golden Feather will be entered into a drawing for a special classroom reward! The reward for this round is extra recess. We have begun another two week round of acknowledging classes for demonstrating the cafeteria expectations.
We are proud to recognize the following classes for working hard to demonstrate kind, respectful, responsible, and safe behavior in the cafeteria:
- Kindergarten: Mrs. Jefferson
- First Grade: Mrs. Lezy
- Second Grade: Mrs. Mello
- Third Grade: Mrs. Placido
- Fourth Grade: Ms. Silveria
As we continue to roll out Falco's Flight, we look forward to expanding opportunities for students to be recognized for their positive choices throughout the school day.
Green and Gold Night
We invite middle school students and families to join us at DRRHS, 6pm this Thursday evening for Green & Gold Night. From academics to clubs and activities, athletics to programs like CTE, come see how there is #SomethingForEveryone at DRRHS.
Wellness Committee Staff Appreciation Form
As part of the DR Wellness Committee’s commitment to fostering a positive school community, we are excited to reinstate our Gratitude Initiative! We invite students, staff, and families to share their appreciation for our incredible staff. We believe that expressing gratitude can uplift spirits and strengthen our connections.
To participate, simply fill out the Google Form to recognize a staff member who has made a positive impact on you or your family/child. Your submissions will be featured in a DR Wellness Committee Newsletter, celebrating the hard work and dedication of our staff.

Reminder: Emergency Medications for the School Year
This is a friendly reminder that all emergency medications—including those used as needed (such as inhalers, EpiPens, or Valtoco)—must have current medication orders on file for the school year. Please note that medication orders expire at the end of each school year and must be renewed annually.
At this time, I am still missing many emergency medications and orders. If you have not yet sent these in, please do so as soon as possible.
Please contact me if you have any questions regarding this matter.
Health Screening
We are continuing health screenings this month. If a child fails vision or hearing, I will follow up and re-screen prior to sending notes home.
Medical Requirements for 3rd and 4th Grade Students
The Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the Palmer River Elementary School District mandate that each student have a current physical examination on file with the school nurse before entering 4th grade.
For third-grade students, physicals submitted during this school year will meet the requirements.
For fourth-grade students, please submit them as soon as possible.
Documents can be faxed to (508) 252-5110, emailed to me at eferreira@drregional.org, or enclosed in a sealed envelope and sent in with your child, as per your preference.
Spare Clothing
Accidents happen! All children are recommended to keep a spare set of clothes at school. This includes a shirt, pants, underpants, and socks. Spare clothing will be stored in a safe location in the classroom and returned at the end of the year. I can also store them in the nurse's office if needed.
Breakfast and Lunch Information
This section will feature information about upcoming community events and activities. Check back each week for new events and updates!
