The Dawg Dispatch
August 7th, 2025

February 27, 2026
The Dawg Dispatch is our weekly snapshot of life as a Bulldawg, straight facts, clear wins, and what’s next, so families and staff can pull in the same direction. It reflects our mission:
“The mission of the Aberdeen School District is to inspire ALL students to become problem-solvers, lifelong learners, and productive members of society.”
Throughout our schools, students and staff have taken time to recognize the leaders, pioneers, and everyday heroes whose contributions have shaped our nation and strengthened our communities. From classroom lessons to special programs and student-led projects, our Bulldawgs have engaged in meaningful learning and reflection.
We are proud to celebrate the history, the achievements, and the lasting impact of Black Americans, not just this month, but every day, as we continue building a future rooted in knowledge, respect, and opportunity for all.
AHS Hosts 4th Annual Black Alumni Panel
On Friday, February 20, Mrs. Quinn hosted the 4th Annual Black Alumni Panel at Aberdeen High School. The event welcomed distinguished alumni back to campus to share their career journeys and words of encouragement with current students.
This year’s panelists included:
-
Traveus Garth, Physical Therapist
-
Trent Young, Locomotive Conductor / U.S. Air Force
-
Paige Matthews, Respiratory Therapist / Army National Guard Officer
-

We are honored to witness alumni returning to invest in the next generation. Events like this remind our students that success has roots right here in Aberdeen. When we expose young people to strong role models and meaningful career paths, we help shape brighter futures.
Let’s continue encouraging, mentoring, and opening doors for our students.

Bulldawgs in Action - School Spotlight
Dressing for Success in Ms. Nichols’ Freshman Class
Students in Ms. Nichols’ Freshman Class recently participated in a hands-on lesson focused on professionalism and presentation.
Special guests AFROTC Colonel Williams and Sgt. Nolan demonstrated how to tie a Windsor knot, giving students step-by-step instruction before allowing them to practice tying their own ties. Beyond learning the mechanics, students were also taught the importance of making eye contact, offering a firm handshake, and properly introducing themselves, skills that open doors long before a résumé is read.
To wrap up the lesson, students designed a creative “Junk Tie” using old ties, decorating them to reflect their personality, future career aspirations, or personal goals.
Lessons like these prepare our students not just for the classroom, but for life beyond graduation.
Small Group Instruction & Student Engagement at Belle-Shivers Middle School
At Belle-Shivers Middle School, small group instruction is making a meaningful impact in the classroom. Teachers are intentionally working with students in focused settings to strengthen skills, build confidence, and ensure every learner receives the attention they need.
This level of engagement allows for deeper understanding, stronger relationships, and measurable growth. When students are actively involved in their learning, success follows.
We are proud of the dedication shown by our teachers and the effort demonstrated by our students each day at Belle-Shivers.
Big Reading Numbers at Aberdeen Elementary
Congratulations to Aberdeen Elementary School for an incredible accomplishment: 1,082,779 words read!
That number represents more than pages turned. It reflects focus, commitment, and a campus-wide culture that values literacy. Strong readers become strong learners, and milestones like this don’t happen by accident. They happen because students show up ready to grow and teachers continue to emphasize the fundamentals that matter.
We are proud of our young readers for putting in the work and building habits that will serve them for years to come. Keep turning those pages, Bulldawgs, this is how success is built.
That’s #BulldawgPride.
