A Message from Dr. Sanchez
Estimados Padres/Tutores,
I hope this message finds you and your family well. It has been an exciting couple of weeks on campus, and I wanted to take a moment to share some of the highlights and provide a few important reminders as we move into the final stretch of the first quarter.
This past week, we celebrated Homecoming Week. Our students showed incredible school spirit, creativity, and unity through themed dress-up days, engaging activities, and, of course, our Homecoming dance.
In addition, we had the honor of hosting our Latino Cultural Assembly in recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month. The assembly was a beautiful celebration of culture, music, history, and student voice. We are proud to uplift and honor the diverse backgrounds and contributions of our Latino community, and we thank all of the students, staff, and families who helped make the event such a success. Special shout-out to Ms.Stompor; her dedication to our students is inspirational.
As we look ahead, please note that the end of Quarter 1 is approaching quickly on Thursday, October 17. This is an important time for students to check in on their progress, finish any outstanding assignments, and ask for support if they need it. We encourage all students to communicate with their teachers, seek tutoring or extra help, and take advantage of the resources we have available. We are here to help every student succeed.
Our Parent-Teacher Conferences will take place on Wednesday, October 23. This is a valuable opportunity for families to connect with teachers, learn more about their students’ academic progress, and discuss ways we can work together to support their continued growth. More information about how to schedule conferences will be shared soon.
As always, thank you for your continued partnership and support. We are proud to work alongside you. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Con Agradecimiento,
Dr. Sanchez
Staff/Student Spotlight
Ms. Schlesser
Q: How long have you been a teacher at PMSA?
A: This is my first year at PMSA, but my fourth year in the district.
Q: Classes/grade levels that you have taught while at PMSA?
A: I currently teach junior IH and AP United States History and sophomore IH Black History.
Q: What activities and/or sports/clubs do you sponsor?
A: I am the sponsor for Craft Club; we meet on Wednesdays in 307. It is a new club this year at PMSA. We have made friendship bracelets and shrinky-dink keychains so far. Come hang out and get crafty!
Q: What do you love most about teaching here at PMSA?
A: What I love most about teaching at PMSA is getting to know my students and seeing them shine and show their strengths. As a social science teacher, I try to tie in students’ interests and backgrounds into my lessons to promote engagement. Students being enthusiastic about history in class has been stupendous!
Q: What is your most memorable moment while teaching here at PMSA?
A: Though I have only worked at PMSA for a couple of months, I have made some great memories. My favorite memory thus far would be seeing my APUSH students perform the skits they wrote about the exploration and colonization of North America. It was awesome seeing my students moving around the classroom and having fun together. I also had a great time at the West v. East soccer game. It was great to see some of my former West students and my current PMSA students play and cheer on their peers.
Q: What is an interesting fact(s) that many do not know about you?
A: I am an animal lover and have had pets all my life. I currently have six bunnies and two cats! I love pickles and even have a tattoo of a jar of pickles. My pickle brand alliance lies with Claussen. Lastly, I am getting married next year!
Q: What book(s) are you currently reading for pleasure
A: For pleasure, I am currently reading She Followed Herself to the Moon and Back by Amanda Lovelace. It’s an autobiographical poetry book about how the author lost hold of their life and was able to overcome that challenging experience. It’s been nice reading something “lighter” and personable.
Q: Anything else you would like to tell the school community about yourself?
A: I am so excited to be at PMSA this year and am looking forward to getting to know everybody. Students, please let me know when you have games, performances, assemblies, etc. I’d love to come out and support you outside of class.
Joel Bedolla

Cool Things Happening
Latin Cultural Assembly
Students celebrated Latin culture in a colorful and energetic Latin Cultural Assembly, proudly waving flags representing countries from across Latin America. The event showcased the beauty and richness of Latin traditions through vibrant quinceañera dresses, traditional music, and lively dances.
Students also had the opportunity to learn about the history, customs, and stories behind each performance, deepening their understanding and appreciation of Latin heritage. The assembly fostered a sense of community, cultural pride, and connection among students, highlighting the importance of diversity and the joy of sharing traditions with others.
It was a truly memorable celebration of culture, creativity, and unity!
Driver's Education
Our Driver’s Education students had the opportunity to take a closer look at the vehicles they’ll soon be driving! During this hands-on lesson, students explored key safety features, learned how to perform basic vehicle checks, and discussed the importance of responsible driving habits. They also examined essential items that every driver should keep in their vehicle for assistance, such as jumper cables, a first aid kit, and emergency tools. It was a great way to connect classroom learning with real-world experience and reinforce the importance of safety and preparedness behind the wheel.
-Thank you, Ms. McCormick!
In our Driver's Ed classes, there was a guest speaker, Mr. Gavin Dillon from the Illinois Secretary of State, who talked about the importance of becoming an organ donor. The speaker explained how one decision can save multiple lives and make a lasting impact on others. They also emphasized how important it is to have conversations with our families about our choice to be an organ donor, so our wishes are known and respected. Making this decision early and sharing it with loved ones can make a difficult time easier for them and help ensure that our choice is honored. For more information, contact: https://www.lifegoeson.com/.
Mental Health Club
Our Mental Health Club brought some positivity to campus last week! Students took to the sidewalks with chalk, writing uplifting words and messages of encouragement for everyone to see. This colorful display was a simple yet powerful way to spread kindness, boost spirits, and remind our school community of the importance of mental wellness.
-Thank you, Ms. Gart!
Pep Rally
Our school came together for an exciting pep rally on Friday, October 3rd! Each class showed its school spirit by wearing a designated color, creating a vibrant and energetic atmosphere. The event featured enthusiastic MCs, performances by the band, and a special introduction for the seniors to celebrate their final pep rally at PMSA. It was a fun-filled way to boost school pride and celebrate our students!
-Thank you, Ms. Stompor!
2025 Homecoming
Our Homecoming celebration was a night to remember! Students danced the night away, embracing the disco-themed festivities with fun outfits, colorful lights, and plenty of energy. The DJ kept the music pumping while students showed off their best moves on the dance floor. Laughter, school spirit, and a sense of community filled the evening, making it a truly memorable event for everyone in attendance. It was a perfect way to celebrate our students, their creativity, and the vibrant spirit of PMSA!
-Thank you, Ms. Stompor and members of Student Council!
Personal Statement Writing Workshop
This week, English teachers hosted an after-school Personal Statement Writing Workshop where students had the opportunity to work one-on-one with teachers in a focused, individualized setting. Seniors received personalized feedback and expert guidance to refine their essays and highlight their unique voices. These private sessions allowed students to strengthen their writing, clarify their ideas, and polish their personal statements before sending them to prospective colleges and universities. This valuable experience provided our seniors with the support and confidence needed to present their best selves through their writing.
AP English Students Visit the Theatre
AP English Language students enjoyed an enriching field trip to see Doubt: A Parable, the Pulitzer Prize-winning play, at The Theatre of Western Springs. After the performance, students participated in a talkback with the director, dramaturg, and actors, exploring both major and subtle aspects of the play. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect literature from the classroom to live theater and gain deeper insight into storytelling and performance.
-Thank you, Ms. Beresheim and Mr. Rutstein!
English III-The Scarlet Letter
Students in Ms. Helpley’s English classes brought literature to life by wearing their own “scarlet letters” as part of an immersive activity connected to Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The Scarlet Letter. This powerful exercise encouraged students to reflect on the themes of judgment, identity, and societal expectations that Hester Prynne faces in the novel.
By experiencing a small piece of what Hester endured, students gained a deeper appreciation for how labels and perceptions can shape one’s sense of self. In addition, the class engaged in thoughtful discussions about their experiences, drawing connections between the novel’s historical context and modern-day parallels. The activity provided a meaningful way to bridge classic literature with personal reflection and empathy.
-Thank you, Ms. Helpley!
Advanced Chorus
Our Advanced Chorus class brought the fun and energy to the pep rally by performing a lively set of 70’s tunes! Their upbeat performance had the whole school clapping, singing along, and feeling the spirit. It was a fantastic way to celebrate school pride and showcase the musical talent of our students.
-Thank you, Ms. Burkovskiy!

de 2025:
Un mensaje del Dr. Sánchez
Estimados Padres/Tutores,

-¡Gracias, Sra. Stompor!
Regreso a Casa 2025
The Theatre of Western Springs.
-¡Gracias, Sra. Burkovskiy!
