At Second Home, we are committed to providing meaningful, person-centered experiences that support independence, social connection, and community engagement for adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities. Through creative activities, life skills development, volunteer opportunities, wellness initiatives, and community outings, our participants continue to grow, learn, and build lasting relationships in a supportive and inclusive environment. This month has been filled with exciting activities, celebrations, and achievements, and we are proud to share a glimpse into all the wonderful moments happening at Second Home!

Functional Highlight - Safety

At Second Home, this month’s daily living focus is on community and home safety skills. Participants are building independence by learning how to stay safe in a variety of settings, including recognizing safe versus unsafe situations at home and in the community. Through guided activities and real-life practice, individuals are working on skills such as following safety rules, identifying trusted people, navigating community spaces appropriately, and responding to emergency situations. These lessons help strengthen confidence, awareness, and independent decision-making in everyday life.

Work Readiness - Florist

This month at Second Home, our participants are blooming in their work readiness skills through a fun florist-themed order fulfillment activity! Through hands-on practice creating and “filling floral orders,” individuals are learning how to follow multi-step directions, organize materials, check their work for accuracy, and complete tasks in a structured sequence. From selecting flowers to arranging and preparing “bouquets” for delivery, participants are strengthening important workplace skills while engaging in a creative and meaningful activity.

National Speech-Language-Hearing Month

This May, Second Home is proud to recognize National Speech-Language-Hearing Month and celebrate the important work of our Speech-Language Pathologist, Ms. Chris! This annual observance helps raise awareness about communication disorders and highlights the impact speech and hearing professionals have on improving the lives of individuals of all ages.We thank Ms. Chris for her dedication, support, and commitment to helping our clients strengthen their communication skills and build meaningful connections every day!
