Week of September 15th
This month, we’re focusing on empathy and challenging students to make sure that everyone they interact with feels seen, heard, and valued. We are partnering with you to grow and develop empathy in your student at home. Here is an activity to try as a family to reflect on and better understand the needs of others.
Empower: Schedule time to have a family meeting and develop a family Social Contract together. Ask everyone to answer these questions:
• How do we want to treat each other?
• How do we want to treat each other when there is conflict?
Write down any words you identify as a family (respect, kind, honesty) and ask each member to commit to the contract by signing it.
Accelerated Reader is at SMS!
This year, Sheridan Middle School is excited to launch Accelerated Reader (AR) to spark a love of reading and celebrate student progress. Through AR, students earn points for their achievements as they read books at their own pace. Families can help by encouraging daily reading at home—whether it’s sharing a few chapters together, asking about a favorite character, or simply cheering them on. Together, we can make reading a fun and rewarding adventure!
