A Message from Miss Massey
Month of August
What are the counseling topics this month?
Growing Our Bobcat Character 🐾
At Martin Elementary, we believe character is something we practice every day—not just something we talk about. Each month, we focus on a Wear the C Guiding Principle, a monthly Character Trait, and a Character Skill of the Week to help students build positive habits and strong relationships.
Our monthly Wear the C focus connects students to the values that make our Celina community special: Community, Leadership, Stewardship, Innovation, and Excellence. Our monthly Character Trait gives students a specific quality to recognize and practice, while our weekly Character Skill breaks that trait down into simple, age-appropriate actions students can use in their classrooms, friendships, and everyday lives.
By giving students a consistent focus, we create a common language across our school and give students opportunities to notice it, practice it, and celebrate it! Together, we are helping our Bobcats grow not only as learners, but also as kind, responsible, confident members of our community. 🐾
August: Building Our Community
This month, we are focusing on Community and what it means to truly Wear the C at Martin Elementary! Students are learning about our five guiding principles—Community, Leadership, Stewardship, Excellence, and Innovation—and how they can show these qualities every day.
Throughout August, we are putting a special focus on School Pride, Citizenship, and Initiative. We are encouraging our Bobcats to take pride in their school, make positive choices that help our community, and take the initiative to be helpful and responsible.
We are so excited to see our students Wear the C and show what it means to be a Martin Bobcat! 🐾

Monthly Guidance Lesson
Classroom Guidance is a time for students to learn and practice important skills that support their academic success, personal growth, and social-emotional well-being. During these lessons, students will explore topics such as feelings, friendship, kindness, respect, problem-solving, coping skills, responsibility, and making positive choices.
Lessons are designed to be age-appropriate, engaging, and interactive, giving students opportunities to talk, practice skills, and connect what they learn to everyday situations. Our goal is to help every Bobcat develop the skills they need to feel confident, connected, and ready to learn.
During the month of August, students learned what the school counselor does and what the student's job is here at school.

School to Home Connection
Home-to-School Connection: August — Community
August is all about building our Martin Elementary community! This month, talk with your child about what it means to “Wear the C” and be a positive part of their school community. Ask them how they can show School Pride, Citizenship, and Initiative at school and at home.
Try asking: “What is one thing you can do this week to make our classroom, school, or home a better place?” 🐾💙
Small acts of kindness, responsibility, and helping others make a BIG difference in our community!
1. Show Your School Pride
Have your child share one thing they love about Martin Elementary. Then, as a family, talk about one way they can help make their school a great place.
2. Community Helper Challenge
Choose one helpful job to do together at home—clean up a shared space, help a sibling, make someone’s lunch, or help a neighbor. Talk about how helping others strengthens a community.
3. Take Initiative!
Challenge your child to notice something that needs to be done without being asked. Maybe they put away their shoes, pick up a mess, or help set the table. Celebrate their initiative!
4. Kindness in Our Community
Do one small act of kindness together. Write a thank-you note, leave a kind message for someone, or do something thoughtful for a neighbor.
5. Family Community Circle
At dinner or bedtime, ask:
- What makes someone a good community member?
- How did you help someone today?
- How did someone help you?
- What can our family do to make our community better?
