Embracing OUR Story! Embracing OUR Story!

As we continue to tell OUR story at Brassfield Elementary, we are focused on building strong routines and habits that help students thrive. Together, staff and families are supporting children as they develop a love of reading, strengthen their mathematical thinking, engage in purposeful play, embrace productive struggle, and explore their interests and passions. We also encourage families to establish consistent routines at home that support learning, independence, and well-being. These shared efforts are helping every child grow with confidence, curiosity, and success.

Hello Brassfield Families!

A heads up that the Glow Run is Tuesday, September 1, and this year’s event will be INDOORS in the Brassfield gym! Families are welcome to join us and cheer on their students!

Glow Run Schedule

  • Kindergarten: 9:40–10:25

  • 2nd Grade: 10:30–11:15

  • 1st Grade: 11:20–12:05

  • 5th Grade: 12:25–1:05

  • 3rd Grade: 1:10–1:55

  • 4th Grade: 2:00–2:45

When You Arrive

  1. Please park with consideration for school traffic. Parking is limited, so families may need to use available space in the carpool lanes or bus loop during the day. Please do not park in the bus loop during the Kindergarten or 4th Grade Glow Run sessions due to bus arrival and dismissal. Carpool vehicles may also begin lining up around 2:30, so 4th Grade families should be especially mindful not to interfere with regular dismissal traffic.

  2. Enter through the school’s main entrance.

  3. Sign in on the family/visitor sheet — no kiosk needed.

  4. If taking any students home after the Glow Run, add their names to the Student Sign-Out Sheet in the lobby. More information below.

  5. Stop by the PTA Merch table in the lobby!

  6. Proceed to the gym to cheer on your student.

Taking Students Home After the Glow Run

If you plan to take your student or any siblings home after the Glow Run:

  • Notify each student’s teacher no later than the day before the event.

  • Add each child’s name to the Student Sign-Out Sheet in the lobby when you arrive.

  • Students leaving campus directly from the Glow Run should bring their belongings with them to the gym.

  • Glow Run participants: You must also sign your student out directly with their teacher in the gym before leaving.

  • Siblings: Siblings being dismissed early will be sent by their teacher to the front office to wait for pickup.

  • Students may only be released to individuals authorized on their release forms.

Important Hallway Reminder

For student safety and to minimize disruption to instruction, families may not accompany students to classrooms to return a student, pick up a sibling, or retrieve belongings. Hall monitors will help direct families and students.

Students returning to class after the Glow Run will do so without their family member.

Thank you for helping us keep the Glow Run fun, safe, and running smoothly while minimizing disruption to the school day. We can’t wait to cheer on our Brassfield students!

Welcome Back, D.A.R.E.!

We are excited to welcome D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) back to our fifth-grade classrooms! Through our long-standing partnership with the Wake County Sheriff’s Office, our students will once again participate in this valuable 9-week program designed to help them build confidence, make responsible decisions, communicate effectively, develop healthy relationships, and learn strategies for handling peer pressure and other real-life situations.

This year’s D.A.R.E. program will run from August 26 through November 4. Deputy Brown from the Wake County Sheriff’s Office will teach the 45-minute lessons, giving students the opportunity to learn through engaging discussions and interactive activities. At the conclusion of the program, we will celebrate our students’ hard work and accomplishments with a D.A.R.E. Graduation Ceremony. The graduation date and additional details will be shared with families later this fall.

We encourage families to ask their child about what they are learning each week and continue those conversations at home. Your involvement helps reinforce the important life skills students are developing throughout the program.

If you have any questions about the D.A.R.E. program or your child’s participation, please feel free to contact Elana Mason at emason@wcpss.net. I am happy to help!
