Welcome to the 2026-2027 school year, to kick off the year I visited each classroom to read the book, Gritty Ninja, by Mary Nhin. We discussed what it means to be gritty and strategies to help each child overcome obstacles with a positive attitude! These strategies include staying calm using self-talk, confident, visualizing succeeding in your goal, carefree, it's ok if you fail, and capable - setting a goal.

I also reviewed our Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and how following the Vernfield Vision makes our school community such a special place to be, and each one of us plays a key role in that! I also reviewed our District Bulling Policy and if students are ever not sure, they should always speak to an adult, we are here to help!

Some tips to getting off on the right start this year include:

1. Getting organized: have your child pick out their school outfit the night before.
2. Establish a routine and stick with it: establish a bedtime and morning routine.
3. Maintain healthy habits: eat healthy foods, limit screen, and stay active!
4. Empower your child to have some responsibilities: have your child pack their homework/library book.
5. Connect home and school: reach out to your child's teacher with questions/concerns. Ask your child about the best part of their day.

Transportation by bus is the preferred method for students traveling to and from school. There may be times, however, when you need to drop off or pick up your child. If you plan to make any changes to your child's usual transportation arrangements, please notify both your child's teacher and the attendance office at attendvf@soudertonsd.org.

If your child will have a consistent change in transportation throughout the school year, such as daily car rider or attendance at Kids Care, please be sure to communicate those arrangements with your child's teacher and the attendance office at attendvf@soudertonsd.org so we can ensure a smooth and safe transition each day.

Families can manage their student's meal account through https://www.myschoolbucks.com/

On this website you can add funds, check balances, view purchases, and set low fund notifications. You can add money to your child's account through this website. You can also send money to school in an envelope labeled with your child's name and ID number. Cash or checks made payable to "SASD Cafeteria Account" are accepted.

We are asking that all Homeroom Coordinators attend the HSA meeting on September 14, 2026.

The meeting will be held in the Vernfield Library at 7PM.

Vernfield HSA Back to School Bash!
