There will be no school this Friday, April 3rd and Monday, April 6th!
Please see the calendar changes below!! The last day of school will now be Wednesday, May 20th!
This week we recognized our wonderful paraprofessionals with a day of appreciation! They each received a succulent gift as well as snacks and cards. We appreciate all they do for our students and staff. We also recognized Mrs. Wieters for school librarian day!
Our kindergarten students had a wonderful time on their field trip to a farm to visit a cow their class "adopted". Our preschool and kinder prep students had a blast doing Easter egg hunts! The morning classes went to the Waterville Public Library, and the afternoon classes bused over to the Blue Valley Nursing Home in Blue Rapids! The residents loved watching the kids do their Easter Egg Hunt!

Blue Rapids Elementary
It's all blue skies in Blue Rapids
It was a great week at Blue Rapids elementary. State assessments began this week in third and 5th grade, and 4th and 6th will begin next week. The teachers have done a great job of making state testing a more relaxed experience. There were special activities at Jumpstart, including a “sing that word” competition, which was won by Luke Toerber. The older students also visited the 3rd grade to give them "pro" testing tips and to pump them up. The teachers had special snacks in their class as well. Maggie Toerber visited the building to observe in 3rd and 4th grade. She is a student at Benedictine College majoring in Elementary Education. On Wednesday, we had an exciting SITE Council meeting at the high school. The new bleachers were showcased, as well as updates on other facilities projects. We also discussed the effect of technology on our students, the new cell phone/technology legislation, and other updates in the district. There was good two‑way communication during the meeting, and valuable input was given. On Wednesday we also celebrated Para Appreciation Day as well as Librarian Appreciation Day. There were special treats in the breakroom as well as a Mexican fiesta lunch for our paras and librarians. We also did a special song at Jumpstart for them and recognized them on social media. We truly do have a great group of paras and an outstanding librarian, and we appreciate all they do. As we go into Easter break, I want to wish everyone a very happy Easter.
Here are some upcoming dates to remember:
- Good Friday/Easter Break - April 3rd
- Easter Break - April 6th
- Board of Education Meeting - April 20th
- Marshall County Health Department Shot Clinic for Students - April 22nd
- Last Day for Colts Round Up - April 30th
As always, thank you for the privilege and blessing that it is to work with your children. My door is always open if you have any concerns or you need to visit.
