A Message From Your Principal

Dear Eames Way Families,

We hope you are staying warm and safe during this snowy season! HUGE shout-out to our terrific custodians, Mr. Scolponeti and Mr. Lucas, for clearing ALL of the snow around the building and preparing for our return to school on Wednesday morning! They knocked it out of the park and made for a very smooth return for staff, students, and families -- Thank you both!

Despite the winter weather, it has been a wonderful mini-week here at Eames Way. Our students continued the meaningful conversations about belonging and appreciating our differences that we began during Acceptance Week, in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. These discussions are such an important part of building a caring and inclusive school community.

Last Friday, our first graders had an exciting field trip to the Blake Planetarium! A big thank you to our PTO for funding this fantastic learning opportunity—it was a memorable experience for our students.

Today we also loved welcoming older students to our school for the MHS & EWS Ray of Sunshine 500 Solar Race Car Derby. It was especially special to see several Eames Way alumni return to visit and inspire our students.

Starting a new tradition, we held our first Big Buddy / Little Buddy Lunch today! Students enjoyed sitting and sharing lunch with peers across grade levels, and we look forward to continuing this practice on Fridays as a way to strengthen relationships, friendships, and our overall school community.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support. We are so proud of our students and deeply grateful for our amazing families.

With Warmest Wishes,

Ms. Bishop

Principal

Winter Indoor Recess Update Winter Indoor Recess Update

At EWS, our goal is for students to enjoy fresh air and outdoor play as often as possible. Each day, we carefully review the weather and consider several factors before making a recess decision as early as we can. These factors include:

  • The “feels like” temperature (indoor recess is typically held when it is colder than approximately 20 degrees or warmer than 90 degrees)

  • The condition of the playground and blacktop (for example, ice, mud, or unsafe surfaces)

  • Wind conditions, as our hilltop location often brings stronger winds

As winter gear makes its way back into daily use, we kindly ask that families label students’ outdoor clothing, especially hats and mittens. This small step goes a long way in helping items find their way home and supports our Lost & Found efforts!

Thank you for your continued patience, flexibility, and partnership during the winter months. We truly appreciate your support as we work to keep our students safe, healthy, and happy!

PickUp Patrol Reminder PickUp Patrol Reminder

EWS uses PickUp Patrol, a free online application, to manage attendance and dismissal plan changes efficiently and accurately. It eliminates the need to call, email or write notes.

As a reminder, families should conveniently use PickUp Patrol to notify the school for ALL of the following student updates:

  • Absent
  • Late Arrival
  • Early Dismissal
  • End-of-Day Dismissal Plan Changes

If you have any questions, please review the PUP Parent Guide, which is provided by PickUp Patrol, or the EWS PickUp Patrol Overview, which is provided by EWS. If you still need help, contact the EWS Front Office (781-834-5090 or vquigley@mpsd.org) or PickUp Patrol at support@pickuppatrol.net. Thanks!

EWS PTO Winter Ice Skating will be held on Wednesdays from 2:00-2:50 pm at Pilgrim Skating Arena in Hingham from January 14th through February 11th. The cost is $8/skater each week. Parents and siblings are welcome to skate too!

Families may sign-up and make payment via PT Board at the following link: EWS PTO Ice Skating Sign-Up.

Please note the following:

  • Helmets are required for everyone under the age of 18.
  • There are no rentals available at the facility so you must provide your own skates and helmets.
  • Hockey sticks and pucks will be allowed, however, only as long as it remains safe and kept to one side of the rink. (Please discuss this with your children who want to play hockey.)
  • Pilgrim Skating Arena requires a waiver.
  • As for payment, there is a small credit card processing free via PT Board. If you prefer to pay by cash or check, select that option at checkout and PTO will collect cash/checks at the event. Checks should be made payable to Eames Way PTO.

If you have any questions, please contact Julie Brown (617-780-9646).

Cold Weather Preparation:

We want to be able to send students outside for recess (weather permitting) for as long as possible during the winter months. Please be sure students dress in layers for school- they need warm weather gear for outdoor play even when the inside temperature is warm. If students do not have appropriate cold weather/snow gear(coats, snowpants, hats, mittens/gloves, boots) their outside activities may be somewhat limited so they stay warm and safe.

  • If you wear your boots to school, do not forget to pack your sneakers for Physical Education class!

  • A change of dry clothing(socks, pants and shoes) in backpacks are encouraged and keep students comfortable after snowy recess play.

  • Please remember to send students to school with a refillable water bottle. Hydration will help with dry skin and chapped lips.

Here are a few tips to stay healthy and stop the spread this winter season:

We are seeing an increase in the number of coughs, colds, runny noses, and fevers. If your child still seems tired, pale, with little appetite, not tolerating solid foods, and generally “not themselves”, PLEASE DO NOT send them to school. Some Viral illnesses may take longer before your child is well enough to return to school.

  • Keep your child home from school if they have a fever, especially in combination with a cough, difficulty breathing, shortness of breath, congestion, runny nose, or sore throat. They should remain home until they are fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medications.

  • Keep your child home from school for 24 hours if they have nausea, vomiting or diarrhea(return when tolerating a normal diet).

  • Keep your child home for 24 hours after receiving medication(such as antibiotics or eye ointments) for treatment of illness/infection.

If you have any questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at 781-834-5090 x44500 or email me at awhite@mpsd.org.

Volunteering at EWS Volunteering at EWS

In order to volunteer at EWS for school events or in the classroom, parents/guardians need to have an approved CORI on file.

CORI applications need to be redone every few years and we are currently in a three-year cycle covering 2023-2026. All volunteers need to complete a CORI, even if you were approved prior to 2023. Please visit the Front Office to complete a CORI application and provide a copy of your license - it will only take a minutes. Applications are then reviewed by MPSD Central Office, which can take up to a week to process. If you have any questions, please contact Val Quigley (781-834-5090 or vquigley@mpsd.org).

However, to clarify, if you have an approved CORI from last year, it is still valid for this school year!

Ice cream will be available for purchase on Fridays starting October 10th!

Breakfast and lunch are free options to all students for the 2025-2026 school year. Please note, breakfast is available upon arrival from 8:35-8:50 am, however, students can also get breakfast during the morning once the school day starts if they skipped breakfast or forgot their snack. For more information, please visit MPSD School Nutrition.

My School Bucks is an online account for families to easily manage and pay for school meals, a la carte items (such as ice cream), etc. These accounts stay with students throughout grades K-12 and funds can be replenished when balances get low. Here's the information from the MPSD Nutrition webpage on how to set up your account - My School Bucks.
