If you need to talk to a teacher, please park on the street on Barwood Park due to the limited parking the front due to the construction from the City of Austin.
Remember that all parents and visitors: You MUST check in at the office! We ask that you do not park in the front lot during morning and afternoon dismissal due to limited parking. We certainly don't want you to get stuck during pick up and drop off, especially if you are in a hurry. Thank you for understanding!
Arrival:
Gate and doors open at 7:15 am
No early drop-offs before 7:15 am
During two weeks of school, PK-K students will go to the classrooms for breakfast.
All students must be in the classroom by 7:45 am for morning announcements over the intercom.
Car riders will arrive at the back of Cedars International Academy.
Staff members will be outside to greet students.
Walkers will arrive at the walk-up zone on Barwood Park.
Staff members will be on the street to greet students.
Late students will report to the front office for a tardy slip after 7:45 am before class. Parents must upload a note to excuse the tardy.
Designated staff will be required to assist with the following:
Escorting students from the vehicle to their designated area on campus.
Monitor students in the hallway and cafeteria.
🚗Dismissal Instructions
All parents with an elementary or middle school student will receive a car tag from their child's teacher during Back to School Night. The car tag is required for a child to be dismissed from school. Car tag must be present in the car or in hand when picking up a student.
Dismissal:
Dismissal begins at 3:30 pm on Monday-Thursday
Dismissal begins at 12:30 pm on Fridays
Each family will receive two security car hangers from your child’s teacher during Back to School Night.
If you need additional hangers, please contact the front office at 512-419-1551. There is a $20 fee for each extra hanger.
Please display your child’s security hanger on your rearview mirror during afternoon pick-up.
Important: If a vehicle does not have a visible security hanger, the driver will be asked to park and check in at the front office to pick up their child.
Carpools: Be sure to clearly display all student numbers for the children you are picking up.
Our staff uses an electronic dismissal system to call students to the pick-up area. Students remain inside the building until their number is called, then they are escorted to the vehicle.
PK-2 will be dismissed through the 1st drive.
3rd – 8th-grade students will be dismissed through the second dismissal line near the covered walkway. See map below.
Once your child enters the vehicle and the door is closed, please pull forward so your child can buckle up safely. For safety and liability reasons, staff are not permitted to secure car seats or seatbelts. Pulling forward helps keep the line moving efficiently.
For everyone’s safety, please avoid using your cell phone during drop-off and pick-up times.
After your child is safely in the car, please wait for the car line to move and exit the parking lot carefully.
Possession of a child’s security card constitutes your permission to pick up your child. If you have given written permission for another adult to pick up your child but did not give them a name card, they must come into the office with their photo ID to pick up your child.

DISMISSAL: Parent Walk Up
The security card is also required to pick up your child in the Parent Walk-Up Line. The Parent Walk-Up Line is located by the gate near the main building. An adult with a security card may walk up to pick up your child from the front door on the north side of the building.
DISMISSAL: Walking or Riding Bike Home
Some Cedars students walk or ride their bikes off campus independently. If your child is walking, riding their bike, or leaving our parking area on their own, we must have permission from you to allow them to do so. This includes leaving our parking area to meet your car elsewhere (street, apartments, etc.). This permission will be on file unless/until you rescind it. Please complete a Permission to Leave School Grounds After School form and send it to the Front Office.
Cedars students leave campus on the north side of Barwood Street by the exit gate. Cedars is not held responsible for stolen or damaged bikes.
📵Do's and Don'ts for Arrival and Dismissal
DO’S AND DON'TS OF ARRIVAL & DISMISSAL
Please stay in your car!! ~ Our staff will help students in and out of the car
Hang up your phone ~ Once the dismissal begins, please cease using your phone for calls and texting. We want our parents to be 100% focused on driving safely in our parking lot.
Cars first, pedestrians next ~ We have 30 minutes to safely drop off/pick up about 400 students. We need to make things move fast for our vehicles, so we ask that those walking in our lot patiently wait until directed to cross at crosswalks.
Be respectful of the community members. The best time to arrive is after 3:40 pm.
Please Be Patient!!! Please understand that student safety is a priority at Cedars, and the Dismissal procedure is our way of ensuring campus safety.
Please show respect and patience to each other and the staff as you model behavior to your children.
Use crosswalks and sidewalks when walking and wait to be directed to cross.
Students should not cross over any traffic lane to get into or out of their cars.
Do not block the entrance to the apartment complex.
Do not make U-turns or stop in the middle of Barwood Park to pick up your child from the walk-up area.
Do not form a second pick-up line along Barwood Park.
Please plan and provide yourself with extra time for pick up.
The first 2 weeks of school are usually more challenging as everyone gets back in the swing of things and young students learn the process.
Rain usually increases the flow of traffic in our carpool lane.

🦺Safety
At Cedars, the safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our highest priority. We are committed to maintaining a safe and prepared school environment through proactive planning, training, and communication.
This year, Cedars will continue to adopt the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) developed by the "I Love U Guys" Foundation, a nationally recognized organization that provides straightforward, proven emergency response procedures for schools.
We are excited to continue to have an armed security guard on both campuses.
The SRP is based on five clear actions that every student, staff member, and visitor can understand and follow in the event of an emergency:
Hold – Stay in your classroom or area. Clear the hallways.
Secure – Get inside. Lock outside doors.
Lockdown – Locks, lights, out of sight.
Evacuate – Move to the designated location.
Shelter – Use a safety strategy based on the hazard (e.g., tornado, hazmat).
Each action is communicated with a simple command and has a specific set of instructions to help ensure everyone’s safety.
Throughout the school year, students and staff will participate in age-appropriate safety drills and training using this protocol. Teachers will be discussing each of the five actions with students, so they are informed, prepared, and confident in how to respond during an emergency.
We believe this proactive approach helps foster a calm and focused environment even in high-stress situations by promoting consistency, clarity, and confidence in our response efforts.

💉Immunizations
Parents: please don't forget to have your child's immunizations completed before the first day of school. You can find which ones are required here:
✅Attendance Policy & Information
Daily attendance in school is a strong indicator of future success. Absences from class may seriously disrupt a student’s mastery of the instructional materials; therefore, the student and parent should make every effort to avoid unnecessary absences.
Did you know...? Why Daily Attendance Matters:
Missed Lessons = Falling Behind: Even one day can mean missing critical instructions and activities, making it harder for your child to catch up.
Impact on Future Success: Consistent attendance is a strong predictor of academic achievement and future opportunities.
Building Resilience: Regular attendance teaches your child the value of perseverance and responsibility—essential skills for success in life.
Stronger Friendships: Daily presence helps your child develop and sustain friendships, which are crucial for emotional and social development.
Healthy Routine: Attending school every day establishes a stable routine, promoting better mental and physical health.
Who to contact if your child doesn't want to come to school: Mrs. Rosete, (512)419-1551 Ext. 324 or srosete@cedars-academy.org and Ms. Silva, (512) 419-1551 Ext. 301, or asilva@cedars-academy.org.
🔨Compulsory Attendance Law
Compulsory Attendance Law
State law (Texas Education Code Section 25.085) requires that all students at least 6 years of age and not yet 19 attend school each day. Compulsory attendance also applies to students who are younger than six who have been voluntarily enrolled in pre-kindergarten or kindergarten. FEA: Compulsory Attendance policy
State law provides that if a student is absent from school without parental consent for any portion of the school day for three days in a four-week period or for ten or more days in a six-month period, the student and/or the student’s parent or legal guardian are subject to civil prosecution by the truancy court. If the student fails to obey the order issued by the civil courts, the student may also be referred to a juvenile court, which will determine whether the student should be adjudicated delinquent and referred for supervision by the juvenile probation authorities.
Per the compulsory attendance law verbiage, “parts of days,” leaving school early or arriving after school begins (tardy), even if the child attended some days, may count against the student. Acceptable reasons for an excused tardy are the same as an excused absence.
90% Rule
To receive credit or a final grade for a class, a student must attend class 90 percent of the days class is offered, regardless of whether the student's absences are excused [see FEA] or unexcused. High expectations for attendance will continue to be maintained.
What does the research say?
Across the country, more than 8 million students are missing so many days of school that they are academically at risk. Chronic absence — missing 10 percent or more of school days due to absence for any reason—excused, unexcused absences and suspensions can translate into third-graders unable to master reading, sixth-graders failing subjects, and ninth-graders dropping out of high school.
Retrieved from https://www.attendanceworks.org/chronic-absence/the-problem/.
Parents and guardians play a very important role regarding their children’s attendance.
🖋️Attendance Tips!
Here are a few attendance tips to consider:
Have your student arrive to school on time and attend every class period, especially the official attendance-taking period (10:00 AM) middle schools and high schools; and, homeroom for elementary).
A student who is tardy to class will be subject to the consequences established at each campus in accordance with the possible consequences in the CIA Student Code of Conduct.
What happens if your student needs to see a doctor/dentist/therapist? If possible, we encourage you to schedule appointments outside of school hours. Obtain and submit a medical note for documentation to provide to your student’s campus Attendance Specialist. Documentation is needed so the absence will be coded correctly.
When you receive an absence notification, please follow up with your student and the campus attendance specialist. If you have documentation for your student’s absence, please submit as early as possible (it is recommended to submit within 48 hours). If you believe a teacher has marked a student incorrectly, please have your student reach out to the teacher of the marked period.
Report An Absence
Parent/guardian should submit the “Cedars Absence Notification Form” online and any documentation should be submitted as soon as possible (recommended within 48 hours after the absence has occurred). Documentation must support the reason for the absence to be coded correctly.
Cedars International Academy must submit its attendance to the Texas Education Agency, reflecting student attendance at a specific time each day. Please try to schedule appointments for your student after school, but if that is too difficult, try to schedule medical appointments after 10:00 AM.
Note: Phone calls are not required to report an absence in advance; per policy, we can’t address absences in advance, and phone calls cannot count as documentation.
Parents will receive notification of absences on the Websmart Parent Portal.
Your student’s campus CANNOT accept phone calls or voicemail messages as documentation for a student's absence.
Parent/guardian notes may be used to excuse 8 absences for the school year. If exceeding 8 parent/guardian notes, the parent/guardian is encouraged to communicate with your campus principal to discuss the reason(s) for absences and whether future parent/guardian notes will be accepted.
Do not falsify documentation. Falsifying documents is a criminal offense. Penalties for falsifying medical records in the state of Texas is a misdemeanor, a sentence up to one year in jail and a fine up to $4000. Penalties for tampering with government records can range from a misdemeanor to a Second Degree Felony offense; up to 20 years in prison and a fine up to $10,000.
Excessive absences may result in a violation of compulsory attendance laws* and the Student Code of Conduct. Such violations may result in the loss of course/grade credit, court action, and/or monetary fines. 10 to 20 consecutive full-day unexcused absences can lead to withdrawal of your student and filing of “Parent Contributing to Nonattendance.”
*The Texas Compulsory Attendance Law indicates that a child who is required to attend school, must attend school each school day for the entire period the program of instruction is provided. If a student is absent from school on 10 or more days or parts of days within a six month period, or on 3 or more days or parts of days within a four week period- the parent is subject to prosecution for "parent contributing to nonattendance" and the student is subject to prosecution for "failure to attend school."

📚 Homework Habits
Getting back into the swing of homework can be tricky. Start by creating a set time and quiet space for studying. Review their agenda or planner together and help prioritize tasks. Be sure to acknowledge their effort encouragement can help them stay motivated and on track.
🌙 Bedtime Reset
A consistent sleep schedule is key to a smooth start. Begin easing into the school-year bedtime routine now. Set clear expectations for winding down, and avoid screens before bed to promote restful sleep.

We will continue to offer our fee based program for ineligible students. This program will run separately from our fee based program.
Great News!
This year’s after-care fee structure remains unchanged there’s no increase in rates. Families who choose to pay one month in advance will receive a 10% discount.
Here is the fee structure:
- 1st child: $20 per week
- 2nd child: $20 per week
- 3rd child: $10 per week
- 4th child: No charge
All fees are due by the Friday before the start of the week. Payments made after 3:30 p.m. on Monday will incur a late payment fee of $5 per student.
