Late October News (10/23)
Principal's Update
Dear NBC Families,
It was great to see so many of you at Parent Teacher Conferences! We look forward to continuing teaming with you to help your middle school students be successful. If you were not able to attend, I encourage you to reach out to your students' teachers. Emails and phone calls are always welcome. The end of the first academic quarter is quickly approaching on Friday, November 6.
We are excited about the Middle School Fall Dance that is today. This is a chance for students to enjoy some pizza, games, and dancing together in a safe environment. We are also looking forward to Friday, November 6 when we will be holding a positive behavior celebration/activity day. Here at NBC we strive to create a culture where students make positive choices behaviorally, emotionally, socially and academically.
There is lots of great information in this newsletter. We appreciate all you do to support our students and our school! As always, if you have questions or concerns please feel free to contact me at 231-894-5617 or by email at grays@mapsk12.org

Kickstart to Career
Attention parents! Did you know that a deposit only account, with a $50 donation, was opened when your child entered kindergarten? Kickstart to Career is an exciting initiative supported by the Community Foundation of Muskegon County that helps students learn about financial literacy while encouraging them to plan for their post high school goals. Upon graduation, students can access their KickStart to Career savings to help cover the costs of college, vocational training, or other educational pursuits. For more information visit www.ktcmuskegon.org or contact your school's counselor.
There are multiple ways that students can grow their account! Click on this link to watch a short 1-minute video to learn more:

Book Fair Success
Thanks to the wonderful success of the Book Fair October 12th-16th, many new books were able to be purchased for the library and will be entered into the system soon! Thank you to all that purchased items that made this possible! Remember, you can donate to the Share the Fair fund all year round, which will help students at the next book fair!
"Every Wildcat. Every Day. Attendance Matters!"
DID YOU KNOW?
- Absences can be a sign that a teen is losing interest, struggling with school work, dealing with a bully or facing some other difficulty.
- By 6th grade, absenteeism is one of three signs that a student may drop out of high school.
- Missing 10% (just 2 days each month) can drastically affect a student’s academic success.
- Attendance is an important life skill that will help your teen keep a job and graduate from college.
Cell Phone Policy
The cell phone policy at NBC states that phones are left in the student's locker and turned off between the hours of 7:25 am - 2:45 pm.
Students are required to use the office phone if they need to contact parents. If your student doesn't know how to contact you, the office staff will happily look your number up in PowerSchool.
