A NOTE FROM MRS. B
Howdy Bronco Family! To quote one of my favorite childhood authors, Dr. Seuss… “The more you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” I truly believe that reading opens the world to everyone. You can experience fantasy and adventure. You can learn about history and our world. You can be entertained. Reading is also an extremely vital piece of growing our kiddos here in school and leading them to successes. And, one doesn’t stop reading just because they are no longer in school. So, in honor Dr. Seuss’s birthday on March 2nd, I encourage you and your kiddos to gather some books and read them together. Get lost in the pages and let your minds wander!
As a campus, we will be celebrating Dr. Suess’s birthday and Read Across America on March 4th. Let your child pick their favorite Dr. Suess character and come to school dressed as it that day. We will also have community members and others, including local news celebrities, reading to our students. We are so blessed to have others come in and share their love of books and reading. It will be a great day!
Remember, you can always find the latest Meadow ISD news on the MISD website and Facebook page, so go check them out! Also, check your kiddo’s backpack and folders for any important paper notes that may have gone home.
Don’t forget to contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions about what is going on in the classroom. We are always here to help.
It’s ALWAYS great to be a Bronco!
Mrs. B
¡Hola familia Bronco! Sra. B.

MRS. SANCHEZ - KINDERGARTEN
Hello parents,
We’ve been super busy in kindergarten.
In Phonics we have learned about voiced and unvoiced sound for digraph th. The students will continue to work on generating rhyming words, accents, alphabetizing and omitting initial/final sounds to create new words.
The students will work on related facts for 4/5, 6/7, 8/9 and 10 in Math. We are learning that you always start subtraction with the biggest number. We are also listening to stories to solve those addition and subtraction problems.
In Reading, we will continue to work on comprehension questions for reading and students will continue to think, pair and share to answer those questions. Our focus continues to be on identifying the genre, and type of genre, author’s purpose and point of view.
All the students will be tested on all the color words on Friday.
Please continue to read the AR library books to your child for at least 20 minutes so they can take an AR test. The end of the third quarter is almost over. Let’s keep working to meet our goal.
In Social Studies, we will continue our study on George Washington. Last week, the students were able to tell me several things they know about George Washington (What I know, Want to learn, What I learned) chart. This week, we will listen and tell what we learned. The students will also identify that George Washington is on a quarter and the value of a quarter.
Please call the office, or message me on Class Dojo, if your child is sick.
Thanks for all your support.
Mrs. Sanchez
MS. DAWDY - 1ST GRADE
This week in First Grade:
We read Duck for President looking for the problem and solution. While reading the story, they thought about how they have responsibilities at home, just like the animals. They always enjoy finding a connection to themselves in our stories! They also practiced opinion writing by deciding if they think they could be a farmer or not.
In math we are continuing learning how to count mixed coins to find their value. We place "hair" on the silver coins to count by fives and a "bald spot" on the pennies to show we need to count by ones. They are doing such a great job at counting money!
The weather was so nice on Tuesday while we had our Living Things nature walk, they drew what they could see outside the school that was living. We also started learning how to write a letter this week. We wrote letters to other classes, and adults around the school!
Please practice their sight word cards every night and listen to your child read. They are all making great progress toward their AR point goals!!
MRS. ALANIZ - 2ND GRADE
Super second graders!!
For the past two weeks we have been working on a short novel study over the book Because of Winn- Dixie. We read the book, completed a foldable, enjoyed some Winn-Dixie related snacks, and watched the movie. We were able to review things like theme, point of view, setting, character development, cause and effect, genre, and comparing/contrasting. This was a great way to put all our knowledge to work and it was so much fun! In math we are in the middle of our measurement unit and we have started learning the difference between natural and manmade resources in science.
For the remainder week we will shift gears and focus a lot on getting prepared for our robotics competition NEXT WEEK! Time has gone by so quickly and I can't wait to see these kiddos in action as they compete to be the BroncoBots Champion!

MRS. McCORMICK - 3RD GRADE
3rd Grade ELAR
Vocabulary:
This is week 2 of our new vocabulary resource Vocabu-Lit. Please help your child study the words and definitions ready for a test on Friday.
Reading:
Lonestar Learning this week is focusing on the genre "Tall Tales." Please remember these assignments include interactive daily questions that we complete in class. If you want to see how your child does on the Lonestar assignments, please let me know. Our Friday test will be a released STAAR paired passage including the type of written response question that will be tested on STAAR.
AR Reading:
If your child is struggling to meet their AR goal or is still struggling to read independently on grade level, please keep reading with and to your child every evening to help them decode unfamiliar words and to monitor their comprehension.
We have almost made it to Spring Break and then STAAR will be right around the corner. Our ELAR test will be on April 8th. Please contact me with any questions or concerns.
Mrs. McCormick
Sra. McCormick
MRS. HOUCHIN - 3RD GRADE
Math/Science/Social Studies
In math we are learning how to tell time to the nearest minute and to use elapsed time to find an ending time.
In science we are learning about the formation of soil.
In social studies we are learning about jobs and how to decide on what job we would like to do when we grow up.
Please make sure your child is practicing their math facts every night. Math fact tests are on Thursdays
Reminder the new math homework will be sent home on Tuesday. It is due on Friday, but please have students work on it each night and bring it back to school every day. This allows me to check work and allow students to make corrections so that they can understand how to work each problem correctly.
Last week students made a sample of soil layers with different yummy treats. The layers we learned about are bedrock, parent material, subsoil, top soil, humus, and we also added a worm to represent decomposers.

MRS. BAYER - 4TH GRADE
4th and 5th Grade have been doing a lot of work in Google Classroom over the past few weeks. It is good for them to learn how to use this platform as they will be using it for almost every subject 6-12. Since the work is uploaded online, the students have to type in their answers. This has been a challenge for some, but I have seen a lot of progress. It would be very helpful, however, if you have a computer at home, please allow them to practice typing at typing.com. Because the work is online, you won't necessarily be seeing a lot of papers come home. If you are ever interested in or concerned about your child's progress or grades, please login to the parent portal, or email me at amy.bayer@meadowisd.net.
MS. GAMEZ -5TH GRADE
Fabulous 4th Grade & Marvelous 5th Grade Math
-In 4th Grade, we are going to customary and metric measurements and conversions. They will learn what measurements with certain items and then convert them from one measurement unit to another. If 12 inches are in a foot, how many inches would be in six feet. I think, for the most part, the students will be okay because this little class loves a challenge.
-In 5th Grade, we just finished measurements and measurement conversions. We will start working on data analysis. The students will learn to not only create different graphs but also be able to read them. The questions are more complex than what they are used to. They will not only be asked which one has more or less but how much more does this one have than the other two combined. We are practicing figuring out the wording and clues to be able to answer our math questions because we will see this on the Math STAAR test.
-I have been creating a page or page and a half of review problems for students to complete during the week and due on Friday. Now, if the students do not finish their daily assignment that too is required to get done for the next day. I have few students in 4th grade and 5th grade not turning in their assignments or the homework page I am assigning, and you will be able to see in through their grades and progress report. Please, ask your students if they have anything to complete at night because I need the work to be completed and turned in.
Thank you for your support,
Stacy Gamez

A NOTE FROM OUR NURSE -RAE CAMPBELL
Parents,
I would like to remind you that if your child did not pass their vision and/or hearing screens, they need to be taken to the appropriate physician as soon as possible. I have sent another letter home with your child this week. The physician needs to fill out and sign the bottom portion of the referral letter and it needs to be returned to the office. These visits are completely covered by Medicaid. If your child does not have vision insurance or Medicaid, you may qualify for a vision voucher. Please let me know as soon as possible if you need the form to request a voucher. If your child cannot see or hear, they may be struggling in the classroom. Therefore, it is in your child's best interest to have a professional examination.
We have had several students out this week with the flu. If your child is running a fever of 100.4 or higher, please keep them home. They may not return to school until they are fever free for 24 hours without the use of tylenol or motrin. Please be diligent in reminding your children to cover their mouths and wash their hands frequently.
Rae Campbell, BSN, RN

Padres,
