From the Nest... From the Nest...

Redhawk Families,

I hope this message finds you well. As we continue moving through the school year, I want to take a moment to celebrate our students and the growth we continue to see across our building. It has been wonderful to see students engaged in their learning, supporting one another, and demonstrating the perseverance and curiosity that make Sidener such a special place.

I also cannot believe that we are entering the final stretch of the school year. Our students have grown tremendously; academically, socially, and emotionally, and it has truly been a joy to witness their progress each day.

We are also entering assessment season, which is an important time for our students to demonstrate what they have learned throughout the year. We ask that families support students by ensuring they are well-rested, arrive to school on time, and are ready to do their best each day. Your support during this time helps set our students up for success.

Thank you for your continued trust and support as we navigate the day-to-day work of school together. Your partnership allows us to create a safe, structured, and supportive environment where all students can thrive.

We look forward to finishing the year strong and continuing to celebrate the successes of our students along the way.

Warm regards,

Dr. Milanda Penn

Friday, March 27 is Parent Teacher Conferences, formerly called PIT (Parents in Touch) Day. This is an asynchronous day of learning for students.

The district's Spring Student Progress Conferences is a wonderful opportunity to discuss your child's progress, celebrate their successes, and set goals for the next school year. We look forward to connecting with each of you to share how your child is growing both academically and socially. Reach out to your child's teacher to set up a time to connect with them. Unified Arts teachers will also be available to speak with families.

Students will be expected to complete all work assigned by their teachers during this asynchronous learning day. Reach out to your child's teacher with any questions or concerns.

Sing Me a Song Visit by the Indianapolis Opera!

The Indianapolis opera will once again visit Sidener on Wednesday, March 25th at 1:30pm in the gym! Their Sing Me a Story series is a 45-minute children's mini-opera that comprises of 4 singers and 1 pianist. This will not impact the first and second grade schedule as it will be during their normal UA time. There will be an option for a short Q&A following the performance.

This year's opera is entitled Camilla Paints the Town, which tells the story of Camilla the Chameleon who has only ever known a world of black and white. But one day, she discovers her colors and begins to see the world with a newfound wonder. She excitedly brings a little color to the lives of everyone she meets, who each finds the colorful way she sees things to be both intriguing and perhaps a little scary. In the end, we'll see if Camilla's new friends can see the beauty in a fresh perspective! Read more here.
