From the Nurses' Office
Chateaugay Central School is excited to announce that we are partnering with the Lions Club this year to offer FREE vision screenings on October 28, 2025 for all Pre-K, K, 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th and 11th graders.
The Lions Club provides free vision screening as a community service. The screening is designed to identify vision issues that may lead to amblyopia. The screening procedure is non-invasive. There is no physical contact with the child and no eye drops are administered.
The screening procedure is very accurate but may produce false negative results or the procedure may not detect a vision problem a child has. If you feel that the child has a vision problem you should have the child examined by an eye doctor regardless of the results of the screening.
The parent/guardian will only be notified if the results of this vision screening indicate the child is at risk for a vision problem.
IMPORTANT: If you do NOT want your child to receive the free vision screening from LIONS SEE, INC. please call the Chateaugay Central School Nurses’ Office at 518-497-6611 to opt them out of the vision screening. By not contacting the school nurse about the vision screening, parents/guardians give permission for the Lions SEE, Inc. vision screening.
Sincerely,
Wendy Magnan & Courtney Trombly
Guidance News - From Mr. Gugliotta
Seniors/Senior Seminar
Seniors/Senior Seminar: This week we continued to work on our SUNY application or Common Application. The goal is to be able to submit, either application, to SUNY schools during the two week free application window (10/20-11/03).
Most ‘local’ scholarships have due dates in the late winter, early spring. There are a few that come out in the fall; one of those is the Elks Club Most Valuable Student Scholarship. This scholarship is open to anyone, you do NOT have to be kin of a member. This is due online by 11/12/2025. Please feel free to join the 2025-2026 Scholarship Folder. Here scholarships are organized by due date and how they are submitted; received by, postmarked by or due online.
This week we worked on our SUNY applications for half of Senior Seminar, the other half we worked on our Ready4Real work. We use the Myers Briggs Type Indicator and the Strong Career Interest Inventory. Both of these are designed to help answer or confirm the answer to the question; “Hey kid, what are you going to do with the rest of your life?” The Ready4Real part of Senior Seminar looks to place students in job shadowing, externships, and internships during their senior year. Students only got through about half of the inventories. The rest was assigned to them to be finished by the end of the day on Monday, 10/20. Mrs. Armani will then print and share a digital copy of the results with the students.
Next week we will finalize applications and discuss a submission plan for the SUNY application. November starts our month of Gratitude. We start the month with ‘Thank You’ cards to veterans. If your student has a special veteran in their lives this is an opportunity to show and express thanks! We will also discuss military service and all the different paths one could take in their service to the USA!
Juniors
The Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test, (PSAT) will be administered during the morning of Wednesday, October 29, 2025. The PSAT mimics the SAT, which is a test some colleges use as a part of their application process. The first SAT for Juniors will take place in the spring of this academic year. This test, the PSAT, gives students their first look at a college entrance styled exam. The PSAT scores are NOT shared with any college! Taking this test only serves as a practice for the SAT.
Sophomores
Students who are interested in one of the three Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs housed at Salmon River Central School, signed up to visit on Friday, October 17, 2025.
1. HVAC 2. Welding 3. Early Childhood education.
Students will apply for a BOCES/CTE program in January 2026. Many CTE programs end up having a waiting list. How can you help ensure your student gets accepted? The students were told the three things they look at are: Attendance, Discipline, and (a distant 3rd) Grades. A few of the programs have specific hours students need to achieve to sit for licensing exams. Attendance is critical in these programs, this is by far the most important trait students should bring with them; show up and show up on time!
