Pet Study Update: What Do Pets Eat & How Do We Care for Them? 🐾
This week, our preschoolers dug deeper into our Pet Study by exploring an important question: What do pets eat, and how do we take care of them? Students learned about the difference between carnivores (animals that eat meat) and herbivores (animals that eat plants), and we discussed what different types of food pets need to stay healthy and strong. The children loved sorting foods and deciding what would be safe and appropriate to feed various animals!
Preschoolers are also excited about the opportunity to “adopt” a pretend class pet to care for at home. This special activity gives them a chance to practice responsibility and apply what they’ve learned about feeding, caring for, and loving a pet.
In Mrs. Bradley’s classroom, we welcomed some very tiny new class pets… ANTS! 🐜 Our ant farm has become a fascinating way to explore our focus question in real life. Students are observing what ants eat, how they work together to gather food, and what kind of habitat helps them survive. We’ve been talking about how even small creatures have specific needs and how caring for living things means paying close attention and being responsible helpers.
The curiosity and thoughtful questions this week have been amazing. Our little scientists are learning that caring for pets big or small takes knowledge, kindness, and teamwork!

NEWS FROM PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Our Phys Ed classes recently transformed the gym into an exciting Olympic arena as students participated in a series of engaging Olympic Stations that brought the spirit of the Olympics right into our school.
Students rotated through the following stations: Bobsled, Snowboard Balancing, Curling, Ski Lift, Slalom Races, and Olympic Puzzles on the Lu!
These activities encouraged students to stay active while celebrating teamwork, perseverance, and the Olympic values of respect, excellence, and friendship. The gym was filled with energy, excitement, and plenty of gold-medal effort!
We are proud of all our students for their enthusiasm and teamwork during this Olympic adventure!
Reminder we have our ongoing fundraiser for the American Heart Association and our Kids Heart Challenge. Our jump rope event will take place on Friday, March 13! Keep up the great fundraising efforts.

NEWS FROM MRS. PITTENGER
Our preschoolers are having so much fun in our new Pet Study! Over the past few weeks, we’ve been learning all about how to care for different kinds of pets. The children are exploring what pets need to stay healthy and happy, including food, water, exercise, love, and a safe place to live. We’ve been talking about where different pets live, such as fish in a tank, hamsters in a cage, dogs in a house or crate, and even birds in aviaries. It’s been wonderful to see the children make connections and share about pets they may have at home!
In our dramatic play area, the classroom has transformed into a busy veterinary clinic! The children take turns being veterinarians, pet owners, and even the pets themselves. They use pretend tools to give check ups, wrap bandages, and make sure their furry (and not-so-furry) patients are well cared for. This imaginative play is helping build empathy, responsibility, and problem-solving skills.
Each child will have the opportunity to take home our special “class pet” for the weekend. Families will help their child document their adventures together through pictures or drawings and a short description. When the class pet returns to school, your child will get to share their experience with classmates. We can’t wait to hear all the stories and see how well our preschoolers put their pet care knowledge into action!

MAKERSPACE NEWS
The Makerspace transformed into a tiny Winter Olympic Village this week! First and second graders were challenged to build ice skating rinks, ski slopes, and luge runs using only Legos, Magna-Tiles, or wooden blocks. The results were equal parts architectural genius and adorable! Beyond the fun, these kids were navigating real-world constraints. They had to figure out how to make a slope steep enough for speed but stable enough to stand, and how to balance blocks without a single piece of tape. Stillwater's Makers are constantly prototyping, failing, and improving through wonder, collaboration, and play!
