Groundbreakers Consider Great Basin College

This past weekend, a group of seniors from Central Tech toured Great Basin College in Elko, Nevada. Great Basin College (GBC) is a regional college located in Elko, Nevada that offers associate and bachelor’s degrees, as well as certificate programs. GBC degree programs include skilled trades, like diesel technology, electrical, welding, and industrial maintenance and health sciences, like sonography, nursing, radiological sciences, and EMT, as well as many other degree and certificate areas. Many of the degree programs at GBC are accelerated so that students finish more quickly, and the college works closely with local and regional business partners to support employment after graduation. Unlike similar institutions, GBC offers student housing, including dorms and apartments, and perhaps most importantly the Promise Scholarship can be applied to tuition at GBC. This means that students who complete the Promise Scholarship requirements can attend college at GBC without having to pay any tuition.

Students should also have spent some time reflecting upon their post secondary goals and identifying some actions they need to take this year in pursuit of their goals. Students can ensure that they are ready for their Academic Planning Conference by completing the Academic Planning Questionnaire. Families can help students prepare for their Academic Planning conferences talking to their students about their post secondary plans and these questions:
