Laura Gaskins

Let me introduce myself and why I would like to be elected to Osgood School Council. I am the mom of Summer and Bobby Bertovich, who are in 4th and 1st grade. We have lived in Cohasset for almost 10 years and absolutely love it. I have a Masters in Social Work from Boston College and have my own private practice. For the past 17 years, I have worked with children, teens, and young adults. I specialize in treating Anxiety Disorders and working with girls with ADHD. In the Cohasset community, I am the troop leader for the 4th grade Girl Scout troop and am active in SEPAC. Through my work and involvement in the community I understand the needs of ALL students, particularly the neurodiverse population. I have worked both personally and professionally with the special education departments of many schools, including Cohasset Public Schools. There is not a day that goes by where I am not thinking of the welfare both academically and emotionally of children. My background in social work will give me an unique perspective when helping Osgood look at their educational goals and the needs of the students. I appreciate your time and support! Thank you! ldgaskins@gmail.com

Susana Arévalo

My name is Susana Arévalo, I’m originally from Colombia—the land of the world’s best coffee! My journey began as a social entrepreneur when I founded a nonprofit organization that has been transforming the lives of children from low-income communities for over 13 years in Colombia. TED Speaker at 2016, after winning the national social innovation contest. Later, life took me into the world of technology, where I helped launch and expand different tech startups across Brazil, Mexico, Chile, and of course, Colombia.

Today, I manage a boutique family hotel we built a few years ago, a project that combines my passion for hospitality, community, and creating meaningful experiences. Beyond business, I’m passionate about cooking, giving back, and always seeking new challenges that leave a positive mark.

As a mom of two (including an Osgood 1st grader) and an eternal optimist, I believe in the power of collaboration, creativity, and laughter to make any project successful. I would love to bring this spirit of energy and innovation to the Osgood School Council. brasusas@gmail.com

JOS School-Wide Expectations Matrix

Above is a document that staff worked to develop over the course of the school year last year. It is a starting point for us as we focus on being clear and intentional with students about behavior expectations. This week, students came to the "Big Stairs" with their grade-level as Mrs. Gaudette introduced the expectations for each area of the school. This document will help us all, staff and families alike, have common language when we speak to children about what we expect and support them in their learning when they make mistakes.

We will continue our work with school-wide expectations as part of working groups with staff, which will include involving families along the way. Stay tuned...

What Expertise Can YOU Offer Our Students?

Cohasset is a community comprised of experts in a wide variety of fields. In order to deliver more authentic, hands-on, project-based learning experiences to students, the Cohasset School Committee, in collaboration with district leadership, is working to develop a "Community Resource Guide." This Guide will serve as an invaluable resource to our classroom teachers and school staff, as it will provide them with a comprehensive database of all stakeholders and interested parties who are willing to share their background, experience, and expertise in furtherance of our mission to Empower Students to Improve Communities.

There are many different ways in which one might participate in this endeavor, including classroom presentations, hosting or facilitating field trips, creating shadow or internship opportunities, or assisting with project-based learning experiences.

If you are willing to share your unique talents, passions, interests, and/or expertise, please click this link to fill out a brief interest form. We thank you for your willingness to volunteer your time in order to deliver impactful learning experiences to CPS students.

Onward and Upward,

Your School Committee
