This Week's Scouting Report
Thursday March 5, 2026
Good evening Glenwood families!
Thank you for your flexibility with this week’s adjusted schedule.
March is here, and Daylight Saving Time begins this weekend! We are looking forward to longer evenings, warmer temperatures, and the energy that comes with spring. Please start adjusting bedtime routines so Monday morning is a smooth transition for your child. I anticipate some sleepy students (and staff) on Monday.
A big thank you for the strong participation in our Read-a-thon. In a short time, GES families raised nearly $18,000. This fundraiser supports our PTG and promotes consistent reading habits. Time spent reading each day builds vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. Please continue encouraging your child to log their reading minutes. Thank you for your ongoing support of all things Glenwood!
We had amazing participation in our spring conferences. Thank you for making time to connect with your child’s teacher. Those conversations matter and help strengthen the home-school partnership. Thank you to our PTG for providing lunch and dinner for our teachers during conference days. They continue to amaze me!
I hope that you children enjoy the extra long weekend. Please review the updates and check out the Happenings below.
Best,
Josh Rehak, Principal

Fourth Grade News
Fourth grade students have been spending their ELA time learning about inventors and their inventions. Throughout the unit students had to complete the ‘Wheel of Invention’ throughout a series of reading, writing, or building challenges. Students worked on collaborating, researching, documenting, pitching, and growing from failures. By the end of the unit students had completed their opinion essay about the most useful invention in history. Students also came up with their own new invention diagram, memorized a 1 minute pitch script, and presented it to the whole class - - - Shark Tank style!
Fourth grade students had a fantastic time reading for Read-A-Thon! Flashlight Friday was a great way to get excited about reading and find new books to read.
Our fourth graders also loved visiting with our middle school guest readers who came to read books to the elementary students. They especially enjoyed seeing their siblings visit!
To celebrate the 100th Day of School, the fourth grade students visited with their Book Buddies to help them with projects containing 100 items. They enjoyed collaborating and using their imagination and creativity!
Kindergarten's Big Number Bonanza
Kindergarten celebrated with "Number Day". They 'built' with 100, counted out marshmallows, and even had a visit from their 4th grade Buddies!
First Grade celebrates the Festival of Colors
Mrs. Megahey's first grade students learned about and celebrated Holi, known as the “Festival of Colors,” today by tracing and cutting out their handprints to make colorful artwork. They also used their handprints to design their own henna patterns.

Each week we will highlight anyone who has exemplified qualities similar to our Philly mascots, possessing the following:
GRITTY (Flyers Ice Hockey) Resilient with a ‘never give up’ attitude
FRANKLIN (76er's Basketball): Loyal friend
SWOOP (Eagles Football): Strong and determined
NEVER GIVE UP
Our students have really accepted the challenge of our Read-A-Thon! Their RESILIENCE and passion for reading combined with their perseverance of logging hours - and working toward the goal has been impressive! And the money raised will be used for multiple school projects including an update to our outdoor Nature Center. Great job, readers!!!!

Break Room Remodel
THANK YOU: We truly appreciate all the assistance as our PTG Board has organized a "Break Room Remodel". A group of parents have been working tirelessly: assessing the room, putting together a plan and wishlists, then cleaning and organizing the room. They purchased items, accepted many donations, and are now delivering and installing a long list of improvements. Our staff will be extremely surprised by all the thoughtful additions... we have such a generous group of families, not only funding the efforts but also spending countless hours volunteering their time. And a shout out to Greg for quickly acting on installing new tile in the room! Stay tuned - - these are just the BEFORE photos...
