A NOTE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
May 8, 2026
Dear PUSD Staff and Families,
This week was Teacher Appreciation Week, and it provided a meaningful opportunity to recognize the extraordinary work our teachers do each day.
Teaching is demanding work, and those who do it well often make it look easier than it is. What I continue to appreciate most is that the work is never just academic. Great teachers build trust. They create classrooms where students feel safe to ask questions, make mistakes, and continue growing. They help students develop confidence in themselves in ways that often cannot be measured by a test score or reflected on a report card. Long after students forget a particular lesson, they often remember how a teacher made them feel seen, capable, and valued. I am deeply grateful for the professionalism, care, and consistency our teachers bring to students and families every single day.
This week, I had the opportunity to visit Del Sur Elementary, Westwood Elementary, and Creekside Elementary. At each school, I saw teachers doing what they do best: creating thoughtful learning environments, building strong relationships with students, and keeping the focus on what matters most. There is a steady professionalism in our classrooms that deserves recognition and appreciation.
As we head into the weekend, I also want to wish a happy Mother’s Day to all of the mothers, grandmothers, guardians, and caregivers in our community. Thank you for the countless ways you support, encourage, and care for the children in your lives. Your influence reaches far beyond what is often seen day to day, and that impact matters deeply.
Have a great weekend,
Ben
