Carlton County 4-H Annual Volunteer Training
Join us for the Carlton County 4-H Annual Volunteer Training ! As adults, we are supporting the growth of our youth into strong leaders. It is important for us to recognize where we are empowering youth to be leaders now, not just in the future. We are responsible for making space for their voice in all of our programs so they can learn, grow, and flourish.
During this training, we will reflect on our personal beliefs about youth voices and our behaviors in youth-adult partnerships. We will also learn about the essential ingredients in strengthening youth voice and youth-adult partnerships in our program.
The goals of this training are to:
- Center the vision of 4-H, where youth and adults learn, grow, and work together as catalysts for positive change.
- Define youth voice and youth-adult partnership and understand the research behind youth participation.
- Reflect on our beliefs, behaviors, and ways of being to take action toward the 4-H vision.
This training is for 4-H club leaders, volunteers in charge of 4-H programs, volunteers who support youth in their club or county-wide committees and youth who want to support adults learning about giving them a voice.

NEW Club Leader Resources !
- Here are some great ways to start meetings with an ice breaker https://extension.umn.edu/4-h-clubs/leading-4-h-club#welcome-2978460
- Another great idea for clubs is to create a group agreement. A group agreement is used to make sure youth feel comfortable and safe in their learning environment. 4-H Project Bowls
Project Bowl is a long-standing program in Minnesota 4-H and is the second most attended event of the year. In Project Bowl, teams of 3-6 youth members build skills working and thinking together while testing their knowledge in these 4-H areas: dairy, dog, general livestock, horse, llama-alpaca, plant science, poultry and rabbit.
There are four regional bowls, which lead to the state competition. Each regional contest has two divisions for dog, horse, poultry and rabbit: Junior (grades 3-8) and Senior (grades 4 through one year post-high school).
New this year, in dairy and general livestock, there will be three divisions: Junior (grades 3-5), Intermediate (grades 3-8) and Senior (grades 4 through one year post-high school).
Regional winners advance to the State 4-H Project Bowl. Llama-alpaca and plant science teams have the opportunity to participate in the State 4-H Project Bowl.
Winners at the state level in dairy, general livestock, horse and poultry go on to national contests.
Get your friends together, recruit a coach, study hard, and have fun during the Project Bowl season!
