Dear Jefferson Families,

The 2026-27 school year is off and running at Jefferson! Last week our first through fifth grade students arrived and jumped right into their new classes. Yesterday, our kindergartners had a great first day. Can you believe they will be the class of 2039!

In these first several days of school, we have been intentional about teaching our Charger Expections, which begins with our Charger Code:

"Jefferson Chargers are safe, respectful, responsible and kind. Wherever we go, we use a friendly voice and help others. We solve small problems on our own, and report big problems to adults."

Our teaching strategy is to explicitily model and demonstrate what it means to be safe, respectful, responsible and kind throughout all areas of our school... classroom, cafeteria, hallways, line-up area, etc... We refer to these expectations all year long, and we recognize individual students as well as entire classes for living out the Charger Code.

In addtion to teaching our school-wide expectations, teachers are getting to know the strengths and assets of students, as well as growth areas, through beginning of the year assessments. Additionally, a number of relationship-building activities are occurring to build a sense of belonging and community with our students. Through our past student surveys, the students have let us know they feel supported by the adults here. That's something we strive to maintain and even improve. As a staff, we view all of the students as our responsibility, and we are so privileged to be a part of their educational journey.

I wanted to express my appreciation to our car drop off and pick-up families for helping to make arrival and dismissal as smooth as possible. A few reminders:

  • In the morning, please drop off your child as quickly and safely as possible along the curb. If you feel like you will need longer (such as assisting your child out of the car), please find a parking spot in our lot or at a location near the school (Park and Ride, 27th Ave, etc.) and escort your child to where they need to go.
  • For both morning and afternoons... if a parking space is open, by all means, take it. Be sure to to use the crosswalks as you head to your destination. Please do not cut accross the parking lot.

Thank you for supporting safety the spirit of our Charger Code at the beginning and end of each day!

I wanted to make sure you save the date our Open House next month. It will be Thursday, October 8th from 6:00-7:00pm. That will be an opportunity for you to come in to your child's classroom and see what they have accomplished so far, and what to expect this year.

It's a beautiful time of year, and our school grounds are going to have a beautiful new additon (see below for volunteer project). It's so great to be into the ryhthm of the school year.

With gratitude,

Steve Hopkins

  • Disciplinary action: If a cell phone/PED is seen or used during the day, school staff will hold it and return it to the student at the end of the school day. Repeated violations may lead to further consequences.

Jefferson Beautification Project Coming Soon! Jefferson Beautification Project Coming Soon!

Jefferson has secured a Give & Grow grant to enhance our school through improvements on the playground, under covered area, cafeteria and courtyard. If the weather holds, September 11th may look a bit different with volunteers here to paint murals and update the grounds. We look forward to seeing the fun and fresh new look at Jefferson! A huge thank you to the Give and Grow foundation for all you are doing for Jefferson!

Social Emotional Survey To Be Taken Soon

Social and emotional learning (SEL) is critical for student success in school, career, and community; and this has never been more true than it is today. Students at Jefferson will begin taking the Social and Emotional Learning survey using the Panorma Educaton platform on a date between 9/28 and 10/16. The survey prompts students to reflect on their own actions and thoughts as well as their general experience at our school. Survey data helps school staff create a more positive school experience for all students as well as provide specific supports for students in need.

The results from this survey will only be shared with pre-approved adults who work closely with your children in the school (their teachers, counselor, principals). SEL data, alongside academic and attendance information, will allow adults to provide specific and targeted interventions as needed to support students succeeding at school. Think of it like the iReady diagnostic but instead of measuring math or reading, it looks at skills like sense of belonging, self-management, and emotion regulation.

The questions students will answer are research-backed, valid, and reliable. You can preview the full survey in the link below. If you have any questions or would like to exempt your child, please feel free to contact either:

  • Jacob Finkle (Assistant Principal), jfinkle@everettsd.org
  • Our counselor. Hannah Kegley, hkegley@everettsd.org

Preview every question in the survey here.

Arrival and Dismissal Reminders Arrival and Dismissal Reminders

Thank you for your support in making drop off and pick up safe and smooth in our parking lot. Here are a few reminders:

  • If you are volunteering or parking toward the end of the day, please recognize the middle row will be blocked by our car pick up line and you may not get out as quickly.
  • The back parking lot is for buses only. This applies to all parents and students. Please only use the front parking lot for arrival/dismissal.
  • If parking on 27th or 92nd during pick up, please be mindful to park 30 feet on either side of the mailboxes so our local postman can effectively do his route and deliveries are not withheld from our neighbors.

Planning Travel/Vacation? Planning Travel/Vacation?

If you are planning to be gone from school for travel or vacation, please remember to fill out a Prearranged Absence Form in order to excuse the absences. The district policy for travel can be found on the form.

As much as possible, please plan vacations around school breaks. One daily habit can set your child up for success for years to come: Showing up at school in person as often as possible. When children regularly attend school in person, they’re more likely to develop their whole selves—personally, socially, academically, and emotionally. They’re routinely able to connect with friends and adults, collaborate and problem-solve, make decisions, think critically, be creative, and engage in hands-on learning. As parents and caregivers, we all want to give our children the best possible chance at a happy, healthy, successful future. Showing up matters.
