St Anthony's School News

Week 11 - Thursday 2nd July 2026
St Anthony's School community works collaboratively to teach and live the values of Christ. While respecting tradition, and to meet the demands of a rapidly changing society, it strives to educate our children to their full potential.
Principal's Address
Dear Parents and Carers
As we come to the end of Semester 1 and an 11 week term, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our entire St Anthony's community for the support, encouragement and partnership shown throughout the term. It has certainly been a busy and rewarding semester, with many opportunities for our students to learn, grow and celebrate together. After a long and productive term, I am sure that students, staff and parents alike are looking forward to a well-earned holiday break. I hope everyone enjoys the opportunity to rest, recharge and spend quality time with family and friends.
School reports will be released via SEQTA at 3.00pm tomorrow. Reports provide an important snapshot of each student's learning and progress across the semester and offer valuable information about their achievements, strengths and areas for continued growth. We encourage all parents to take the time to discuss the report with their child and celebrate the progress that has been made. When schools and families work together and remain actively involved in a child's learning journey, we can provide the best possible support for student success.
This week we have also recognised and celebrated NAIDOC Week, an important opportunity to honour and acknowledge the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC Week reminds us of the importance of listening, learning and strengthening our understanding of Australia's First Nations peoples and cultures. Over the past two days, our Year 5 students have led a variety of traditional games and activities for students across the school. Thank you to our Year 5 teachers for their organisation and commitment in providing these meaningful learning experiences for our students.
Looking back across the term, there have been countless opportunities for students to engage in rich learning experiences both inside and outside the classroom. Students across all year levels have participated in a wide range of incursions and excursions, while many have represented the school at various sporting events, including the Year 6 Winter Carnival, Cross Country and interschool competitions. We have also celebrated significant faith milestones, including the Year 6 Sacrament of Confirmation, enjoyed wonderful choir performances, welcomed families to our Family Night and Book Fair, and came together as a community to celebrate St Anthony's Feast Day. These events are only a snapshot of the many experiences that have enriched student learning throughout the term.
Last week, our Kindy Parent Meetings were held, providing an important opportunity for teachers and parents to discuss student progress and development. Thank you to both our Kindy teachers and parents for generously giving their time to participate in these meetings. These conversations reflect our commitment to the St Anthony's Way by actively partnering in our children's education and working together to support every student's growth and wellbeing.
Our Year 4 students have also begun their preparation for the Sacrament of First Holy Communion. Last week, parents attended an Adult Catechesis session to deepen their understanding of the significance of the sacrament and the important role they play in supporting their child's faith journey. Over the weekend, families also attended one of our parish Masses for the Commitment Mass, marking the beginning of this special preparation. Thank you to our Year 4 families for the time and commitment you have shown. Your partnership with both the school and parish is invaluable as we work together to nurture the faith development of our students. As a faith community, these moments are a wonderful reminder of our commitment to model Faith in Action, supporting our children as they continue to grow in their relationship with God.
Finally, I would like to wish all families a safe and enjoyable holiday break. We look forward to welcoming students back for the commencement of Term 3 on Tuesday 21st of July. We hope everyone returns refreshed and ready for another exciting term of learning at St Anthony's.
God Bless
Mike Barns

SEQTA Engage for School Reports
St Anthony's School utilises the SEQTA Engage Parent Portal for parents to access student reports for students in Pre-Primary to Year 6 at the end of each semester. If you have not already done so, please log in to SEQTA Engage to ensure you can access your child's report.
To do this, you need to go to the following site: https://stanthonys.engage.cewa.edu.au/ and use your current username and password. This link is also found at the bottom of the school webpage under 'Quick Links'.
If you have remembered your username but have forgotten your password, please click the 'Forgot your Password?' link, and an immediate email will be sent to you. The password reset link in the email will expire within one hour, so please action this immediately.
If you have forgotten both of these, then please contact the school, and we can remind you of your username.
Reports will be available from Friday, the 3rd of July, at 3:00 pm.
School Reports Update
As we approach the upcoming Semester 1 reporting period, we would like to advise families of an important change to student reports.
Previously, reports at St Anthony’s included both individual strand grades and an overall grade for each learning area. For example, within English, parents would see separate grades for Reading, Writing and Speaking and Listening, in addition to an overall English grade.
Following updated reporting direction from Catholic Education Western Australia (CEWA), reports will now display overall subject grades only. Individual strand grades will no longer appear on student reports.
While this represents a change in the format of reporting, it does not change the depth of assessment or the careful consideration teachers give to understanding and monitoring each child’s progress. Teachers continue to assess students across the various strands and components within each learning area throughout the semester. This assessment information remains central to planning, teaching and reporting.
The change to providing an overall grade only reflects the understanding that achievement in a learning area is broader than a simple collection of separate strand results. The School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) advises that overall grades are determined through professional teacher judgement against the achievement standards, using the range of evidence collected over time.
This means teachers consider the full picture of a student’s achievement when determining an overall grade. For example, a student may demonstrate differing levels of achievement across various aspects of a subject, and teachers use their professional expertise and knowledge of the achievement standards to make an informed overall judgement of the student's achievement.
We understand that families value clear and meaningful information about their child’s learning. Although reports will no longer include individual strand grades, teachers remain committed to providing feedback that identifies strengths, areas for growth and next steps for learning. Parent–teacher meetings and ongoing communication will continue to play an important role in supporting your child's progress.
We appreciate your support and understanding as we implement these reporting changes. If you have any questions regarding student reports, please do not hesitate to contact the school.

Your support helped make the event run smoothly and was greatly appreciated. In particular, we would like to thank Sarina Berlingeri for coordinating the sausage sizzle and ensuring everything was organised so efficiently.
