The M.L. Day Pride Report

Dear families and friends of MLD,
What an exciting week it was for our students! We had the pleasure of welcoming author and illustrator Jarrett Learner to our school for a truly memorable visit. Mr. Learner shared three secrets to becoming an illustrator — and it turns out, all you need to be able to draw are shapes, lines, and letters! Students were captivated as they helped generate the content for an original story and watched Mr. Learner bring it to life right before their eyes. Be sure to ask your child how the story of Leo the Turtle ended — and don't be surprised if they have their own version to share, as students were challenged to create their very own ending to the tale!
It was also a wonderful week for our school community, as we loved seeing so many families in the building for parent-teacher conferences. Those conversations mean the world to our staff, and we are grateful for the partnership we share with each of you. A heartfelt thank-you to our PTO for generously providing dinner to our hardworking teachers this week — your thoughtfulness and support do not go unnoticed and are so deeply appreciated!
A reminder that report cards are coming home with students today! Please take some time this weekend to review your child's progress and celebrate their hard work and growth.
As the weekend arrives, we hope your family enjoys some well-deserved rest and quality time together. We are so proud of the learning and growth happening in our building every single day, and we look forward to another productive and engaging week of teaching and learning ahead. On Tuesday, 3/17, the MLD Math Team participated in their third meet of the year. At the district level, Karsin C. and Lee G. tied for first place, while Caitlyn M. took home second place. The results are now in for the Southern Maine Math League. Karsin and Lee tied for second place, and Caitlyn took home fifth. Rounding out the team were Hazel C., Hayden F., and Orson C. The team earned a perfect score on the team round, which, combined with their individual scores, earned them second place overall. Congratulations to all of them!
