Dear Families,

We have achieved an important milestone - this week marks one year since we have been in our current temporary locations. We are now only months away from moving back to our new and improved building, and our first week back went wonderfully. The students returned healthy and ready to learn, so March is an important month with consistent weeks and little interruptions that will allow us to take learning to the next level. Next week, our teachers will review student's Cycle 3 WIN goals, and for those students who did not make their goals, we will devise a new plan to make sure those goals are met by the end of Cycle 4.

Additionally, this month we will hold parent teacher conferences where you can expect updates on your child's progress. You can expect more information next week. Thank you for your continued cooperation and support.

With a grateful heart,

Stacy

Message from our Literacy Coach Joia Kirby to Watertown Community Foundation Message from our Literacy Coach Joia Kirby to Watertown Community Foundation

Wednesday, March 1st was the BIG day for Lowell fifth graders. After having seen a fantastic virtual presentation by Kelly Yang in early February, her highly anticipated new novel, Finally Seen was released. At the end of our lunch each student received their own copy of the book. I wish you could have seen the excitement on their faces! Please see the video too!

Thank you!

Finally Seen

Finally Seen

Finally seen. It's a feeling inside me, it's a feeling that awakens my spirit, my inside spirit. I feel that spirit in books, but the book that has that true spirit in my heart is Planet Earth Is Blue by: Nicole Panteleakos. It's a book about two girls who are in a foster home.

Parent Softball League Parent Softball League

Announcement: Parents’ Recreational Softball League, Season 2!

We are currently in the process of organizing season 2 of the Watertown, MA Parents Softball League.

Season 1 was super fun, and we are expecting season 2 to be even better! For those who didn’t play last

year, the Watertown, MA Parents Softball League is a recreational softball league for parents of kids in

the Watertown schools. It is very relaxed and social and open to players of all skill levels. If we get

enough players signed up, teams will be school-based to give parents a fun opportunity to socialize and

build community with other parents at their kid’s school.

If you might be interested in participating, please fill out the Google Doc below.

State law requires 180 days of instruction and also requires that any school closures (“snow days”) be made up before June 30. In the case of inclement weather or school closure for emergency reasons, information about school closures will be:

-Posted on the District’s website (www.watertown.k12.ma.us), the WPS Facebook page (@watertownpublicschools) and the WPS Twitter feed (@watertownschool)
-Emailed to parents and staff from the Superintendent’s office via the District’s messaging service
-Broadcast to the following stations

  • WCVB Television (Channel 5)
  • WHDH Television (Channel 7)
  • NBC Boston (Channel 10 and NECN)
  • WFXT Television (Channel 25)
  • WBZ Television (Channel 4)
  • WBZ Radio (AM 1030)

Some television stations provide a free text alert service notifying of closures and delays (e.g., www.fox25boston.com/weather/closing-login). We will post on the above locations as soon as the decision is made.
