This program is for teenagers 15 to 17 years old that have demonstrated leadership potential. Ideally you will have completed at least one season of the Academy in previous years, but this is not a requirement if you are recommended to us.

If this is your first year as a Peer Leader you will spend your first week training with other Peer Leaders learning the games, activities, philosophy and theory of group development along with the proper use of the high ropes course and how to safely belay. The second week you will be assigned to a group under the supervision of our staff.

Returning Peer Leaders are assigned to a group straight away.

The weeks you choose do not need to be back-to-back. You can attend training at the start of the summer and return and work with a group in August for example. This is an unpaid, volunteer position which is a great addition to your resume. You will learn important leadership skills and make new friends. If you have any questions on the application process please contact the Academy Office.

Weymouth for Inclusion, Solidarity and Equity (WISE)

Ongoing scheduling of social media posts under the supervision of WISE Volunteer

We are looking for a diverse group of students to help us schedule social media posts for our organization. The content would support our mission as a nonprofit, and each post would be approved by a WISE volunteer before being posted on social media. The activity could be ongoing, depending on how the students want to create the posts. The time is listed 8am-8pm this is just to reflect that the start and end time is flexible. The request would be for about 1-2 hours per month (flexible timing).

Shifting Gears

Shifting Gears: The Blunt Truth about Marijuana and Driving

  • AAA Northeast is pleased to offer this program that brings the facts about marijuana impairment and driving performance to teens at or near driving age. You might have heard that people who recently consumed THC – the chemical in marijuana that gets you high – can drive safely. Or that marijuana is nowhere near as dangerous as alcohol when it comes to driving. Maybe someone you know has even said they drive better while high. They might feel more relaxed and less anxious. And that would be safer, right?

  • At AAA, we’ve been studying this topic for years and know the latest facts and research. When you’re done with this program, you’ll know how to answer these questions. You’ll also be challenged to re-think your notions about what being a safe driver really means and develop strategies to avoid putting yourself in a dangerous situation.

  • Completing the Shifting Gears Challenge

  • Click on this LINK to view the video presentation - Shifting Gears: The Blunt Truth about Marijuana and Driving

  • Click on this LINK to complete the Shifting Gears Post-Program Form. After completing the form, you will receive your proof of participation via email. Your email address will be kept private and will not be shared or used for any purpose other than confirmation of completion.

  • Schools with 100 participants earn 10 points.

  • Each student who completes the challenge will earn 1 Community Service hour. Each student needs to either print the completion form or email it to brendan.sullivan@weymouthschools.org and then follow up with Mr. Sullivan in Maroon Guidance to have their Community Service form signed.
