LMS Friends,
I hope you and yours are well!
Here we are heading into a long weekend. Please remember school is closed on Monday, May 30th.
Another big thank you to the Student Council and LMS PTO who continued to celebrate our staff this month. The various appreciations of notes, mugs, goodies, fulfilling amazon wish lists and raffling of baskets were welcomed and appreciated by staff. If you still want to fulfill an amazon wish list item for a staff member, here is a link.
Our spring concert took place last night and our students did a wonderful job under the leadership of Ms. Garnham and Mr. Terry. It was also great to have Mr. Rothe (our retired band director) come back to play with our chorus since he missed his last concert with our students in the spring of 2020. Mr. Rothe received a standing ovation for his 40 years of music education in New Hampshire with 15 of those in Lebanon. Please see the video link below of the recorded concert!
We continue to add summer camp opportunities in the Scoop under the community news section. Please check it out.
With this Scoop, we begin sharing end of year events, activities and information. We will begin sending our Scoop out each Friday to update you on any changes to our events and activities. We will send the next Scoops on June 3rd, 10th, and a final one on the 16th (Thursday).
We hope you have a great long weekend!
Regards,
John P. D'Entremont, Principal

Couple of Reminders
Water Bottles - All students should have a water bottle and bring it to school. Especially this time of year.
Sunscreen/Hats - With the warmer weather, we encourage sunscreen and other sun precautions this time of year as students spend more and more time outside at school.
Lost and Found - We donate lost and found items at the conclusion of the year. We have included some pictures below. Please encourage your students to look for any missing items. We look for labels but can only return if there are names on items.
Ticks - It is that time of year. We encourage students to check here but please check at home too!

End of Year Events
June 10th - 8th Grade Activity Night and Social for 8th Graders
Please remember that a student must be in attendance for the school day in order to participate. Students should also wear sneakers. We will go over expectations with 8th graders on June 9th during the school day.
It should be a great event and we look forward to celebrating with our 8th graders the end of their journey at LMS!
June 13th - Step Up Day & Chromebook Turn In
June 14th - Spring Carnival
June 15th - Recognition
End of Year Events Criteria
In the past, leading up to these types of events, we have the below criteria that students need to meet in order to attend. Although most students will not be impacted, or need to consider this, we always want to be clear and provide the structure that can help everyone be successful.
Criteria:
No ISS or OSS or bus suspension
No more than 3 lunch/recess detentions
Not sent for removal to SRA more than 3 times
Students who do not meet this criteria will meet with administration to determine their eligibility to participate and parents/guardians will be involved.

Latest Update by Nancy Pageau
Hello LMS Families,
As we enter the last few weeks of school and host more & more outdoor activities, please encourage your children to bring their water bottles to school for hydration, apply sunscreen/insect repellent prior to coming to school and to check for ticks whenever they’ve been outside in our fields for PE, recess or other activities.
End of year medication pick up:
Any parent/guardian who has provided the nurses office with prescription medications (ADHD meds, Seizure medications, Epipens, Inhalers etc) need to arrange to pick them up before the end of the school year. Please contact me as to how you want to arrange for pick up before the last day of school. Medications will not be stored over the summer and will be disposed of if not picked up.
Energy Drinks
Per our student handbook:
Energy drinks are not allowed in the school building and we strongly discourage students from bringing soda to school. Drinks that contain large amounts of caffeine, as well as other ingredients, can adversely affect the health of our students. Signs of too much caffeine are upset stomach, headache, dizziness, and fast or irregular heartbeat. Caffeine can also interact with some medications taken for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and other health issues. Students are allowed to have their own water bottles and bottle filling stations are located throughout the building.
We have recently encountered many students bringing energy drinks into school and sharing them. Please encourage your child to seek a healthy alternative for these drinks and NO SHARING OF FOOD OR DRINK ITEMS OF ANY KIND!
Covid booster vaccines for 5-11yo (Dartmouth Health Update)
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) now recommend a booster dose for all children ages 5 to 11 at least 5 months after the primary vaccine series (two doses):
For children who are moderately or severely immunocompromised, the recommended primary series is 3 doses of an mRNA vaccine followed by a booster (4th dose).
Dartmouth Health patients, ages 5 years and older can get their primary series of vaccines and booster shots at several Dartmouth Health locations. At this time, we continue to wait for the CDC and FDA to authorize vaccines for children younger than age 5.
Please note that:
Appointments are required.
You can schedule your appointment by using your myDH account.
You can visit our website or log into your myDH account to see available dates and locations for upcoming vaccination clinics.
Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center is offering drive-thru vaccine and booster shots at the Colburn Hill parking lot. Appointments are required.
**Note that booster shots for ages 5 to 11 will be able to be scheduled in myDH later this week.
Many providers will also be providing COVID-19 vaccines as part of your routine medical visit. If you have not been vaccinated, please ask your provider if they can give you the vaccine during your office visit.
Even though covid cases have been on the increase in our community, it’s important to remember that the goal of the vaccines and booster doses is to prevent serious illness and death. Research conducted throughout the pandemic proves that the vaccines are doing their job and keeping patients out of the hospital.
Lastly, if your child has ANY covid symptom, keep them home and test for covid. Please provide the negative test result to the nurse before sending your child back to school.
Wishing you all good health,
Nancy Pageau

If by chance a pool comes back positive, we will notify the staff and the families of those students in the pool that there is an unconfirmed positive case.
Students/staff in the pool will be asked to monitor for symptoms and will be tested two days later.
After the follow-up testing, those in the pool will be notified of either the negative or positive result.
The person who tested positive will be asked to isolate and close contacts will be notified per the procedures we have been following since the start of the pandemic. The Superintendent will also inform the larger community of the positive test result.

LMS Spring Concert Performed
On Thursday May 26th, 2022 the LMS Spring Concert was held at the Lebanon Opera House. Led by Mr. Terry and Ms. Garnham, it was a wonderful event celebrated by Family, Friends and the Lebanon Community. Also present and recognized by the crowd was former LMS Band Teacher Mr. Gary Rothe who retired in 2020 without being able to perform his last concert. He was given a standing ovation by the audience for his years of dedication to LMS.
For those interested in viewing the event again, below is the link to the live stream that took place. Thank you to YCN-TV for doing an amazing job again this year.

Design Thinking, Entrepreneurship Summer Program by Stanford Designer and Shark Tank Entrepreneur
We are excited to let you know that Inspirit AI is now offering a 10-day bootcamp on Design Thinking and Entrepreneurship for high school students. The program is taught by Maddie Bradshaw, Shark Tank Entrepreneur/Harvard alum and Delaney Rua, Stanford product designer. We warmly invite Lebanon Middle School students to apply!
Design Thinking is a framework to identify and develop innovative solutions to problems that exist in the daily lives and is used by most prestigious organizations across the globe, like Intuit, Apple, and Facebook, to build impactful products. Design Thinking has been cited as a highly valuable career skill, and encourages the development of critical thinking and leadership principles in students of all interests. Inspirit AI’s 10-day, 25-hour small group program will help students work on a design/entrepreneurial project this summer. You can find key program highlights in the short note below.
Camp Gottalikachallenge!
NH Destination Imagination's summer program, Camp Gottalikachallenge has received grant funding to provide FREE camp tuition to our July session for up to ten NH students who qualify for free/reduced lunch.
Camp Gottalikachallenge combines creative problem solving and STEAM with classic summer camp fun. Our program creates a safe, structured, and supportive environment where campers are encouraged to tackle all kinds of new challenges and adventures.
Gotta Camp is open to any child rising into grades 5-9. As of right now, we have only a few spots left in the August session, and lots of space in the July session!
Session 1: July 24-29 at Lions Camp Pride in New Durham, NH
Session 2: August 7-12 at Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, NH (COVID-19 vaccination required for this session)
While the grant funding is specifically for the July session, we do also offer our own need-based financial assistance that can be used for the August session.
If interested, please visit https://campgottalikachallenge.org/ for more information and to apply.

HACTC Tech Camp
The HACTC is excited to offer our one-week Summer Tech Camp to middle school students again! We hope to see some Lebanon Middle School students here at the HACTC for camp this June.
Camp will be held June 20 - 24, 2022 in the mornings.
Some examples of past camp activities include: basic welding, changing a car tire, making homemade pasta and sauce, videography, photography, spa sciences, basic first aid/constructing a first aid kit, Cricut creations, Entrepreneur for a Day, Building a Toolbox, Community Service, and more. We will share this year's complete list of activities when we get closer to June.
We will offer bussing again for schools/towns that send 10 or more students, and will keep you posted once we start to receive camp applications. In years' past we have been able to offer a bus to Lebanon students.
Would you please distribute the attached flyer/application to your 6th, 7th and 8th graders about camp? It is posted here on our web site as well. Campers who attended last year may attend again this year if they are entering 8th or 9th grades - we will be offering new activities to participate in.
Thank you, and please let me know if you have any questions!
