Finish The School Year Strong
Our district believes that daily attendance is essential to academic success, as well as social and emotional well-being. Regular attendance and participation at school are the foundation for successful graduation from high school. We expect every student to attend school on time and every day. Research shows that there is a direct relationship between student attendance and academic achievement.
School attendance is required by law in Nebraska for children 6 through 17 years of age. The responsibility for ensuring children's regular school attendance is a shared responsibility with everyone. Our district, in accordance with state law, has an attendance policy that supports the encouragement of daily attendance while providing supports and resources to students and families that help address attendance barriers and truancy. Families are encouraged to call their child's school as soon as they are aware their child will be absent. If you need assistance with attendance issues, please contact our main office @ 531-299-1480.
State Testing Tips
Gateway students in Grades 3-6 will be completing the NSCAS (Nebraska Student Centered Assessment System) during the months of March and April. So that your child does his or her very best on the test, please encourage them by reinforcing the following test-taking tips:
Get a good night’s sleep.
Arrive to school on time.
Eat breakfast.
Come to school with a positive attitude.
Most importantly, encourage your child to do their very best on the test!!!
For more specific information about how to help your child on the NSCAS, please talk to their classroom teacher.
Thanks in advance for helping our students to show all
that they have learned this year!!
Pets on School Grounds
Now that the weather is taking a turn for the better families are spending more and more time outdoors. This outdoor time often includes our pets. Please keep in mind that pets including dogs and cats are not permitted on school grounds.
Many students have a natural curiosity towards animals, but some may not know the best way to approach, touch or play with the animal. This could unintentionally cause a pet to bite. In addition, children with allergies or immune deficiencies may be especially susceptible to allergic reactions; therefore we ask that everyone please refrain from bringing your pets on school grounds.
Not Feeling Well?
While it’s important for children to be at school, it’s also important for them to stay at home and rest if they are sick--both so they can recover and so they don’t make others sick. If your child is sick, please notify the main office at 531.299.1480. Strict adherence to our health and safety guidelines protects other members of our community and allows in-person learning to proceed more successfully.
If you have any questions, please call our School Nurse, Mrs. Lauren Boll @ 531-299-1480.
