WEEKLY REBEL ROUND UP 3.5
Quarter 2 SY 26

Principal Evans' Message
Weekly Bulletin – Quarter 3 Week 5
As we begin Week 5 and enter the month of February, I want to thank you for the flexibility and professionalism you showed last week. With three snow days, our time together was limited—but the work continues, and now is the moment to stay focused and move forward.
February is also Black History Month, a time for reflection, learning, and honoring the contributions and legacy that continue to shape our community and our country. I appreciate the ways many of you intentionally bring this learning into your classrooms.
A few important reminders and look-ahead items for this week:
- NWEA Testing:
Today is the final day of the NWEA testing window. Any student who is still on the testing list must complete testing tomorrow. Please help ensure this happens so we can close the window with accuracy and integrity.
- DDI Week:
This week begins our next round of DDI sessions.
- If you are participating in the 50-minute DDI, please come prepared with your data.
- Unit internalization must be completed in order for these sessions to be effective.
- If you plan to schedule a one-on-one DDI session, please reach out to me directly so we can get you scheduled.
- Parent-Teacher Conferences:
Thursday is our Parent-Teacher Conference day. Students will be dismissed at approximately 11:25 AM.
We will pause for a 40-minute lunch, and conferences will run through 4:30 PM. A detailed schedule will be shared soon.
- Choice Fair Appreciation & Upcoming Support:
Thank you to the staff members who gave their time this past Saturday to support our Choice Fair. Your willingness to show up on a weekend does not go unnoticed.
We will need a second group of volunteers for this coming Saturday, February 7, at Max Hayes High School. CTU members may earn VPD hours if they have hours remaining. Please see me in advance to confirm your participation.
As we move through the winter months, our focus remains clear: knowing who is on track, supporting course passage, and doing the deep instructional work that prepares students for success later in the year. The work done now—often quietly and without immediate payoff—is what allows results to shine when the season changes.
Thank you for staying locked in, staying focused, and staying in the paint. The consistency we build now matters.
Let’s have a strong week.
In service of scholars,
Brian Evans

Attention REBEL Students
Winter is the season where progress is built.
It’s not always the easiest part of the year, but it’s one of the most important. Showing up to class, staying focused, completing assignments, and asking for help now are the habits that lead to success later. The effort you put in during the winter months shows up in the spring—when grades improve, credits add up, and goals start to feel within reach.
Stay consistent.
Stay locked in.
The work you do now is preparing you for what comes next.
In service of scholars,
Brian Evans

School Choice Fair
On Saturday, John Adams hosted the School Choice Fair for all CMSD elementary and high schools. BIG UPS to Ms. Spoon-Hector, Ms. Chapman, and Mr. Mcclure for volunteering their time alongside Mr. Evans, Ms. Crum, and Mr. Rea. Several future Rebels visited our table. Next Saturday's School Choice Fair will be at Max Hays High School from 10am to 2pm for any staff or students who would like to volunteer.
NWEA Schedule
Hi NWEA Proctors,
Thank you for your continued efforts to ensure our students complete their NWEA assessments. Your work and persistence are greatly appreciated.
As a reminder, the NWEA testing window closes on Monday, February 2nd. Keep in mind that inclement weather days may alter the schedule. In order to meet our goal of 95% completion for all students, particularly those who regularly attend school at JACCA, we need to ensure every eligible student finishes their assessment before the window ends.
Please review the table provided in the email, which outlines the students on your roster who are currently marked Suspended or Not Tested:
Students marked “Suspended” must complete their test on Monday.
Please plan accordingly to ensure each of these students is tested within the next 3 school days.Students marked “Not Tested” must complete their test by Monday, too.
Please plan accordingly to ensure each of these students is tested within the next 3 school days.- Students highlighted in red have not been present at school and, therefore, will not be tested during this window.
Your attention to this process is essential. Please organize your testing plan over the next 3 days to ensure full coverage of students who are present and eligible to test.
If you have any questions or need support with scheduling, seating, or testing logistics, please let me or Mr. Norton know.
Thank you again for your continued commitment to our scholars.

Assigning After School Detention Procedures
Subject: After-School Detention Guidelines
Dear Colleagues,
I want to express my gratitude for your dedication in managing student behavior. As we implement after-school detentions, please remember to:
- Provide a brief description in the "Note to Student" box.
- Select the due date carefully; detentions should never be assigned on the same day they are given.
- Best practice suggests allowing students up to the next scheduled detention day on Thursday.
- Minga will automatically notify the parent/guardian.
- Students can view this assignment on their Minga Dashboard.
- After-school Detention Poster in the cafeteria and outside of the RRR and Rea's office list student's names.
- The teacher/supervisor of the ASD on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday will check-in students who arrive on time at 2:35pm via Minga.
- ASD ends at 3:15pm.
- Rebel Admin will monitor the report weekly and begin progressive discipline as needed.
Thank you for your attention to these details to ensure a smooth process.
Best regards,
Rebel Admin

Black History Month, celebrated every February, is a special time to honor the achievements, stories, and important contributions of Black people to American history and culture. It highlights pioneers in science, civil rights, art, and sports who helped shape the world, ensuring their often-overlooked stories are celebrated.
Key Facts About Black History Month:
- Origin: It was founded in 1926 by Dr. Carter G. Woodson, known as the "Father of Black History," who wanted to ensure Black history was taught in schools.
- Why February? It was chosen to coincide with the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass, two men who worked to end slavery.
- Official Recognition: President Gerald Ford officially recognized Black History Month in 1976.
- Purpose: It is a time for learning, reflection, and inspiration to recognize the importance of diversity.
As part of their unit on The Fear of the "Other," Ms. Price and Mr. Ellenbogen took 11th graders to a photography exhibit at the Maltz Museum. The photographer took a job as a custodian at the Southern border of the US and photographed items that had been seized from immigrants because they were declared 'non-essential.' Students were asked to consider what counts as essential and who gets to decide. They were also asked to write about things - both visible and otherwise - that people carry.
On January 30th, Ms. Castleberry took Mr. Ellenbogen's AP Seminar class to the City Club to hear a forum called, Omaha 360: How One City Reduced Gun Violence by 50 percent. The topic mirrors the kind of research students have to do in AP Seminar - identify a serious issue, research solutions, recommend one, and explain why that solution (like every solution) has limitations. Several of the students had already completed a research assignment on teen violence. All of the students were asked to consider whether what helped in Omaha would help in Cleveland.
Mr. Chunn and Ms. Shepard were well prepared for the sub zero temperature in Cleveland on Friday.
