Monthly Parent Newsletter - August 2024

Welcome to a brand new school year! I am so excited to be at South Breeze Elementary and can't wait to meet all of our students and families. This is my first year at South Breeze, however, I have been with the Newton School District since 2004. I served as an orchestra teacher previously and was the principal at Chisholm Middle School for the past four year. I live in Newton and have two kids that also attend Newton schools. I love this community and will work hard to make Newton and South Breeze a great place for our students, families, and staff. This is going to be a fantastic school year! We are looking forward to seeing all of our students soon!

Abigail Martin, Structured Learning

I am from Wichita KS, and I graduated from Wichita State University in May 2023 with my bachelor’s degree in elementary education. I taught kindergarten through 2nd grade mixed abilities for 1 year in Wichita Public schools.

When I am not at work, I enjoy playing with my chihuahua and spending time with my boyfriend. I also tend to my exotic animal collection which consists of a leopard gecko and a Trinidad Chevron tarantula. I love to spend time with my family and friends. One of my favorite activities is camping.

When I was in grade school, I struggled with focusing and certain subjects. I had some of the most supportive and encouraging teachers. Not only did they help me to understand the lessons, they made me feel important every day. Thanks to my excellent teachers, I was inspired to become a special education teacher.

I have heard great things about Newton schools and cannot wait to call this district home!

Here's to a new chapter in Newton Public Schools!

Emily Crawford, 3rd Grade

Hi, my name is Emily Crawford. I started my career with USD 373 back in 2017 working as a teachers aide. I quickly fell in love with education and graduated with my teaching degree in 2021at Wichita State University.

I shifted to Teacher role in 2020 teaching 3rd grade for 3 years at Northridge Elementary. Last year, I took the year off to care for our newborn daughter, and this year I am returning to teach third grade again at South Breeze.

My husband [Brendon] and I have a large family. Our oldest is 14 going into her first year of high school. We have 11 year old quadruplets who will be in their last year at Santa Fe 5/6 Center, and Eden, our newest edition, is 15 months old. You will see us in the stands at many of the Railers sporting and fine arts events, cheering on our children and my students from years past.

When we are not in the stands, on the field, court, or stage, we are traveling. We have a second home in Missouri that we go to often, but when we are not there, we are traveling coast to coast and peak to peak exploring the nation. Our family goal is to visit all National Parks with the kids before the oldest graduates high school.

I am looking forward to getting back into the classroom and sharing my passion for learning and education with all my new students. It is sure to be a great year filled with fun, silliness, and huge growth.
