Three Steps to Video Production
Step 1 - Pre-Production - Plan, Plan, Plan!!
- What sort of set you need to use? Do you need a green screen?
- Do you need any costumes or props?
- Do you just want to use pictures and narration?
- How much filming time is needed
You may want to create a storyboard showing what will happen in each shot. Click here to see SAMPLE STORYBOARDS.
From this, you will be able to develop your script. You will write down exactly what you plan to say in your video.
Step 2 - Filming
Please see Mrs. DeLuca ahead of time to discuss your equipment and set needs. You can use an iPad or Smartphone for filming.
Make sure everybody on the shoot is aware of their roles and responsibilities. One person should be directing and one person taking responsibility for filming, lighting and sound.
When filming, always be sure to leave space before and after each scene to make editing easier. It's a good idea to start recording and then count down from 3 before beginning your scene.
Be sure to keep track of where all of your footage is. If you are using an iPad, make sure you write down the number of the device. If you are using one of the digital media lab cameras, be sure to write down the number of the memory card you are using.
Please see Mrs. DeLuca if you have any questions!!
Step 3 - Editing
Once filming is completed, you are ready to begin the editing process. Your options for editing include:
- iMovie on the iPad
- Green Screen by DoInk on the iPad if using green screen effects
- iMovie on the Mac
- Final Cut Pro on the Mac
All completed videos will be uploaded to the library's website and YouTube channel. Below you will find some links to video tutorials for these editing tools.
