  • Our APEX fundraiser begins today. APEX team members will be around to each class to share important information to teachers. We will have kick-off assemblies tomorrow and we'll get a schedule to you. Please support this as it is our main fundraiser of the year. Our strategic plan calls for more events like this and less selling of products. I fully support this strategy.
  • We have an I-Ready Reading contest happening now and running through October 11. The challenge is for each class to complete as many I-Ready Reading lessons as possible. The winning class will get a pizza party. Second place in each grade will receive cookies.
  • We have conferences on October 10th and October 24th from 4:30-7:30pm. Please establish a Sign-Up Genius or another method so that parents can set a conference date and time with you. The goal is to meet with as many families as possible and establish those positive relationships.
  • We have a staff meeting on Thursday morning at 7:50. At the meeting, we have some celebrations to discuss, shout-outs, the District Report card, and third grade Fall testing to name a few things. We'll get an agenda out to you before hand.
  • THANK YOU!! I want to say a heartfelt thank you to all of the teachers that helped organize and stay for Literacy Night. We had 350-400 families that attended and everyone seemed to have a good time.
  • Please encourage your students to participate in the 30 Book Challenge. This challenge was inspired by the book The Book Whisperer by Donalyn Miller. It's about a teacher who wanted her students to leave her classroom as lifelong readers. Basically, a student reads a book, gets his or her parent(s) or teacher to sign off that they read it, and when they complete 30 books, they turn their paper into me, and they receive a free personal pizza from Capuano's Pizza in Pataskala. Younger students can read with family members or on their own. I had older students read different genres, but you don't have to do that. The key point is that students read and they have a lot of choice in what they read. Successful students completing the challenge will also get their name on a bulletin board in the main hall. Read! Read! Read!
  • Our first Student of the Month breakfast is this Friday at 8:15 in the cafeteria. This is one of my favorite responsibilities as we recognize the students that are making excellent choices at school. Families attend a donuts and juice breakfast and we recognize our Students of the Month. Students love seeing their teachers in attendance. We'll finish by 8:45.
