After School Games After School Games

For families that are new to Poole MS, we do have a few protocols for students attending games after school. Students must go home on game days. There is no staff supervision between the end of the day and the start of games. To attend games, students must be accompanied by an adult, 18 or over, that will stay with them for the duration of the game. SCPS has a clear bag policy for all sporting events

Model United Nations Model United Nations

Registration for HHP's Model United Nations Team opens Monday, August 31st. Please read below for details and contact Mrs. DeFiore Wood (defiorewoodar@staffordschools.net) with any questions.

What is Model United Nations?

Model United Nations (MUN) is an activity in which students step into the shoes of ambassadors from UN member states to debate current issues on the organization's agenda, deliver speeches, prepare draft resolutions, negotiate with allies and adversaries, resolve conflicts, and navigate the rules of procedure, all in the interest of mobilizing "international cooperation" to resolve problems that affect countries all over the world.

As MUN “delegates,” students take on the roles of representatives in a committee, where they have the opportunity to study a particular country’s or individual’s perspective, argue for the policies of that country or person on the assigned topic, and write a resolution.

Each delegate is presented with the tasks of deciding what their committee should do about their assigned issues, finding other delegates with similar opinions to work with, drafting a “resolution” (document filled with solutions to the issue at hand), and gaining support for their resolution from their fellow delegates.

What MUN opportunities are available for HHP students?

Mrs. DeFiore Wood is considering the conferences listed below for the 2026-27 school year. Ultimately, student interest will determine which conferences we attend. Costs and requirements to participate in each conference will vary.

2026 Stafford County Schools MUN - Saturday, November 14th, at Gayle Middle School

William and Mary Middle School Model UN XXV - Friday through Sunday, February 26th-28th, 2027, in Williamsburg, Virginia (Tentative)

LIGHTMUN III - TBA Saturday in April 2027, in Aldie, Virginia (Tentative)

How will students prepare?

Participants will meet weekly for approximately one and a half to two months prior to each conference. Meetings will generally take place on Tuesday mornings at 8:00 AM. Families are responsible for arranging transportation to school for these sessions. Students will have assignments to complete between sessions and may need assistance at home.

How do I get more information and sign my child up to participate?

A sign-up form will be emailed to all student accounts on Monday, August 31st. The form will close on Tuesday, September 8th, at noon. Spots for the conference in November are limited to roughly 30 students per school. If interest exceeds availability, a random drawing will be used to determine which students will attend.

Communication with Families Communication with Families

Staff members are expected to respond/communicate with families within 24 business/school hours, when possible. To be clear, staff are not expected to respond to parents that email them after school hours and on the weekends. That time should be devoted to their families, to rest and to recuperate.
