My student is in MIDDLE SCHOOL - what do I need to know right now about HSBP?
Your student will be having opportunities to explore their current interests for future careers. They will reflect on interests, skills, abilities, values, goals, dreams, and personality traits that mean the most to them at this point in their lives. These parts and pieces naturally grow over time, so students will be asked to reflect throughout their middle school years to capture those changes.
Did you know that students can start applying annually for scholarships as early as middle school? Please reach out to your child's counselor for more information on College-Bound Scholarships for middle schoolers! Be on the lookout for upcoming FAFSA or WASFA nights!
Need help with filling out FAFSA paperwork? Please contact us! We are happy to help.
My student is in HIGH SCHOOL - what do I need to know right now about HSBP?
In addition to continuing to explore, refine and grow as a person, your student will need to have successfully completed a number of items to graduate: 24 credits (see Board Policy/Procedure 2410 in this newsletter for details), a successful graduation pathway, and their completed HSBP. We are here all along the way to support students and would like partner more with you.
What is the school doing to help?
- We will be meeting with whole groups of students, small groups of students and individuals to make sure that all students are effectively on track for graduation. We will communicate with you via email and welcome questions, comments and feedback around your child's HSBP.
- As part of the HSBP students will be reviewing options for financial aid and scholarships.
How can you help?
- Please make sure your contact information is up-to-date so we can connect easily.
- Ask your student to show you their HSBP in their google drive. If your student is struggling with demonstrating this to you, please contact us so we can support.
- Ask your student questions about school - What is going well? What do they need help with? What is important to them in their studies? How are their grades?
- Be on the look out for upcoming career exploration and financial aid support family events. Attend conferences with your student and ask them to take a leadership role in explaining why their classes matter to their post high school plans at this time.
