The school year is off to a great start! The students are coming to school well-rested, happy and ready to learn. So kuddos to all of you for shifting out of summer mode and into those school routines so quickly!

As we move into September, we will have days where students will be taking some assessments to gather information about their skills. No extra prep is needed just keep working routines and send your child to school on time, well fed, and well rested. Your teachers will be communicating out more specifics on what to expect for these days.

MES Picture Day

Keep an eye out for updates from Nancy Gill on adjusted bus routes. Now that we are in the swing, Nancy is adjusting some routes and will be communicating this out this weekend.

Please be aware that our busses do not accommodate any play dates or other special transportation events throughout the year. Students can only ride their assigned bus on their specified route. If you have further questions about this do not hesitate to reach out to the Director of Transportation, Nancy Gill (ngill@petermannbus.com).

On Friday, September 6th you will no longer be able to change the default pick up mode for your students in the app. From that day forward, any dismissal updates you make will be a change from your default dismissal plan. Be sure to go into the PikMyKid app and set the default dismissal plan (the dismissal that is most often the plan).

Walkers will also continue to be checked out through the band room so please ensure that if your child is a walker that this is correct in the app or they will be delayed at dismissal.

We are still noticing and needing to give a lot of reminders to students about not wearing their smartwatches in the building. Please help reinforce this message at home as it is school policy that any smartwatch or phone are off and in the child's backpack during the school day.

We are so grateful for our awesome families at MES! And we know many of you have that same feeling about our MES staff and all that they do to support your child(ren) every day. This is a district-wide week that will focus on teaching students to be more socially inclusive and connected to each other. We are excited to celebrate with some spirited dress too!

* Every system in our bodies depends on water! Please make sure students have water bottles with their names on them to keep them hydrated throughout the day. We still have some warm weather ahead!

* Please be mindful of Crocs! They are so comfy, however, result in a lot of PE and playground injuries! It is best to send students in tennis shoes to school.

* Lots of hugging friends when we come back to school, wearing hair up and in a ponytail or braids is a great way to prevent the spread of lice!

Remember not to share brushes, headphones, hats or sports helmets!

* Screenings for Elementary school take place in grades K,1,3 and 5! Currently Kindergarten screenings are scheduled for 9/19. If you have any questions or concerns please contact Nurse Amy at AMueller@MadeiraCitySchools.org

The MES Media Center (Library) is looking for volunteers to help with covering new books, shelving returned books, and assisting with special book care and collection projects on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1-2:30pm. Love books and birthdays? Celebrate your child's birthday by donating a book in honor of her/his birthday to the MES Media Center's library collection! This program is supported through our MES PTO. You simply select a book from a curated wishlist. You can buy the book from the Amazon wishlist or through our local Madeira Bookstore, the Bookshelf. Books will be sent directly to MES. Once the book arrives, a personalized birthday book sticker will be placed inside the cover honoring your child's donation and their birthday, and your child will be the first one to check out the new library book! This is a fun way to help enhance our school library collection while also celebrating your child's birthday! Simply go to www.payschoolscentral.com and create an account. This site is an easy, secure and convenient way to apply for free or reduced priced meals and school fees! You can also call the school office for a paper copy in English or Spanish. Annual approval needed. 30 day grace from last school year. Parents responsible for negative balance until approval. The Madeira EZPay online payment system allows Madeira parents to pay school fee payments in full, pay to participate payments per season per sport, tuition program monthly payments, and PSAT payments. Fee payments, pay to participate payments and PSAT must be paid in full. Tuition program payments can be paid monthly or several months at one time.

With this program you will be able to process payments online using any VISA and MasterCard. No more sending in checks or cash, which can get lost. There is a $2.50 transaction fee.

Payments will be applied to your child's account within 48 hours (school work days) through the easy online checkout process.
