Kewaskum Elementary School Vision and Mission Statement Kewaskum Elementary School Vision and Mission Statement

The vision of Kewaskum Elementary School is to guide our students to be respectful, hopeful, compassionate, and responsible individuals who recognize and take ownership in their educational journey.

The mission of Kewaskum Elementary School is to develop the whole child by providing an engaging and nurturing environment through high-quality teaching and learning.

KES Vision of a Learner KES Vision of a Learner

At Kewaskum Elementary, we believe every child can grow into a confident, caring, and capable learner. Our Vision of a Learner outlines the important skills and habits that help students succeed in school and in life.

This vision grows with your child from 4K through 5th grade, focusing on eight key areas:

✅ Community Contributors – caring, respectful, and responsible members of their community.
✅ Effective Communicators – share ideas clearly and listen to others.
✅ Creative Problem Solvers – think critically and find solutions.
✅ Resilient Learners – persevere, try new things, and learn from mistakes.
✅ Digital Citizens – use technology responsibly.
✅ Healthy Individuals – practice self-care, good habits, and balance.
✅ Responsible Collaborators – work well with peers and adults.
✅ Future Focused – set goals and dream big.

What is The Kewaskum Way… What is The Kewaskum Way…

The Kewaskum Way is an overall 4K-12 Behavioral System that teaches and reinforces essential behavior standards. The four components that we focus on at KES are Self-Control, Ownership, Achievement, and Respect or S.O.A.R. Students are taught the S.O.A.R. Standards throughout the school building and are recognized by staff when they actively practice those behavior standards.

As a positive reinforcement, staff hand out purple tickets to students when they demonstrate S.O.A.R.standards. With those tickets, students are able to turn them in for small tangible prizes in their classroom, save them for our monthly prize drawing, or use them to earn school-wide incentive days.

Our first school-wide incentive day was just earned last week and students enjoyed a "Rockin' Recess”. Fun music was played for the students to enjoy outside at their lunch recess time. Our monthly prize boxes include donated items from local businesses and fun activities for students and staff. The November prizes are: A family bowling pass to King Pin, a 3 month membership to the YMCA, woodworking project with Mr. Moser, Milk & Cookies for you and a friend, Gametime with Mr. Getz, and a mystery gift Ask your child what prizes they are going to try to win this month.

Flu and Cold Season is rapidly Approaching Flu and Cold Season is rapidly Approaching

As the weather turns cooler and we head into the heart of cold and flu season, I wanted to take a moment to remind everyone about the importance of keeping our school community healthy. With more time spent indoors and germs spreading easily among children, we're already seeing an uptick in illnesses like colds, flu, stomach bugs, and fevers. By working together, we can minimize absences and help all our students stay focused on learning!

When to Keep Your Child Home

Please keep your child home if they show any of these common signs of illness:

  • Fever of 100°F or higher (or 100.4°F in some guidelines) – Your child must be fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medicine (like Tylenol or ibuprofen) before returning to school.
  • Vomiting, diarrhea, or severe stomach pain.
  • Persistent cough, sore throat, or extreme fatigue that prevents participation in class activities.
  • Contagious symptoms like a new rash with fever, pink eye (red eyes with drainage), or untreated strep throat.

Doctor's Notes and Return to School

For most routine illnesses (like a simple fever or cold), a doctor's note is not required to excuse absences or return to school

  • If your child is absent for 3 or more consecutive days due to illness, or if they have a contagious condition (e.g., strep, pink eye, or a rash), please provide a doctor's note to the office upon return. This helps us track health trends and ensure everyone's safety.

Tips to Stay Healthy This Season

  • Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds (sing "Happy Birthday" twice!).
  • Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or elbow.
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Keep sick kids home – it protects classmates, teachers, and your own family.

If your child does get sick, please notify the office right away so we can excuse the absence.

Thank you for partnering with us to keep KES a healthy place to learn and grow. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out!
