Note from Mr. Dubinsky

We’re excited to bring back tetherball for our third, fourth, and fifth graders! Students have been learning the rules and how to play during PE, and they’re already having a blast.

Basic tetherball rules:

  • Two players face off

  • The goal is to hit the ball so that the rope wraps completely around the pole in your direction.

  • One player hits clockwise, and the other hits counterclockwise.

  • Players take turns hitting the ball with their hands (open or closed).

  • You can’t catch, hold, or throw the ball (only hit it).

  • You can’t touch the rope or the pole.

  • The game ends when the ball is wrapped tightly around the pole and can’t unwind.

9/11 Flag Ceremony with Cub Scout Pack 382

On September 11, Briar Glen students proudly participated in a special Flag Ceremony. As part of Cub Scout Pack 382, the students presented the school with a new American flag. During the ceremony, we also honored local Marine Corps Sgt. Bulley for his service as a radio technician and platoon leader. Thank you to Cub Scout Pack 382!

Lockdown drill on Tuesday, September 16

On Tuesday, September 16, Briar Glen students will be participating in the regular lockdown drill with the Wheaton Police Department. This drill is similar to the drills that students participate in each year. It involves teachers locking their classroom doors, turning off lights, and students practicing strategies to stay safe.

During the drill, a police officer will walk through the building with me, ensuring that each door is secured. The drill should take less than 10 minutes. Please use this as an opportunity to also have a discussion with your child(ren) at home about safety and staying calm during any emergency situation at school.

These drills are an important part of keeping our school safe. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to me.
